Description

(No Model.) 1
' R. W. NYE. ATTACHMENT FOR COOKING STOVES.
No. 501,574. y Patented July 18,1893.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
RALPH W. NYE, OF RICHMOND, INDIANA, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO JACOB G. SCOTT', OF SAME PLACE. Y
ATTACHMENT FOR COOKING-STOVES.
SPECIFICATION forming part 0f Letters Patent NO. 501,574, dated July 18, 1893.
Application tiled April 18, 1892. Serial No.429,598. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Beit known that I, RALPH W. NYE, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Richmond, in the county of Wayne and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Attachments for Cooking-Stoves; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will en able others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to an attachment for cooking stoves, and the objectsV are, first, to provide a simple, cheap and durable support for a pan, kettle or other cooking vessel; and, secondly, to provide a supporting ring which can be easily and readily adjusted to support vessels of different sizes or to raise or lower a vessel placed thereon.
Vith these ends in view, myinvention consists of a ring or annulus, preferably formed of sheet metal, having its overlapping ends adjustably connected together in a peculiar manner, whereby the size of said ring or annulus may be varied as desired.
My invention further consists of the peculiar construction and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter fully pointed out and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a perspective view of my attachment showing a pan supported thereby. Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view, and Fig. 3 is a horizontal sectional view through the lapped ends of the ring or annulus.
Like letters of reference denote corresponding parts in the several figures of the drawings, referring to which- A designates my improved support which is preferably formed from a single piece or blank of sheet metal and which is bent upon itself to form a ring or annulus. The metal forming the annulus or ring A is crimped longitudinally on lines between its side edges to forrn,in the outer face thereof, alongitu`dinal groove or depression B and a raised portion or rib C which rib is contiguous to and extends parallel with the groove or depression B. A similar groove D and rib E are formed on the inner face of the ring or annulus; and when the ends of. said ring-are lapped one upon the other, the grooves or depressions B, D, receive the ribs E, C, respectively, and hold such lapped ends of the ring from edgewise displacement and eect the proper alignment of the ends when adjusting the ring or annulus. v
In one end of the ring or annulus A are formed two series of apertures or openings F, one series being on one side ofthe groove and rib and the other series on the opposite side of such groove and rib, as shown. The other end of the ring or annulus A has integral projecting hooks G preferably two in number, which are bent to enter the openings or apertures F in the other end of the ring or annulus A, and these hooks serve to hold the lapped ends of the annulus firmly together and also permit of the expansion and contraction of the annulus.
In using my improved support, the hooks G are fitted into two of the openings or apertures F, and a pan H or other cooking vessel is placed in the upper end of the ring thus formed. The ring or annulus A can be adjusted to vary its diameter so that the upper scorched. By providing a number of open-v ings or apertures F the size of the annulus or ring A can be readily changed to accommodate the vessel to be supported.
When using my support in connection with a pan or vessel having tapering or inclined sides, said vessel can be raised or lowered, with relation to the top of the stove, by reducing or increasing the size of the ring or annulus.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
As an article of mannfacture,a support for cooking vessels consisting of a strip provided, at one end, with integral hooks and, at the other end, with a series of aligned apertures made on each side of a longitudinal rib and depression formed in the body of the strip, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
In testimonywhereof I affix my signature in presence of two Witnesses.
' RALPHA W. NYE.
