0. FRIEDEBORN. Domestic Boiler.
N0. 228,339. Patented June 1,1880.
Wlrqassss I lryveq ma Mzw I NPETERS, FH'OTWUYHOGRPNER, WASHINGTON. D C.
Ilwrre STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CHARLES FBIEDEBORN, OF CLARE, MICHIGAN.
DOMESTIC BOILER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 228,339, dated June 1, 1880.
Application filed March '29, 1880.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, CHARLES FRIEDEBOR-N, a citizen of the United States, residing at Glare, in the county of Clare and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Domestic Boilers; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, and to the letters andfigures of reference marked thereon.
Figure 1 of the drawings is a side elevation of my invention; Fig. 2, an under-side plan view, and Fig. 3 a longitudinal vertical section.
This invention has relation to copper or other metallic bottoms for culinary boilers, such as kettles, wash-boilers, or those vessels commonly classified under the head of stovefurniture.
Previous to myinvention the above class of vessels were formed with a conical bottom extending up above the lower edge or base of the vessel, and also were formed with circumferential corrugations to increase its strength.
The object of my invention is to improve the conical bottoms of the class above referred to, whereby greater strength and durability are obtained, less liability to bruise, sag down, become creased, and crack, and a greater heating capacity, the special form and construction of the bottom whereby these valuable results are obtained being hereinafter described, and subsequently pointed out in the claim.
In the accompanying drawings, the bottom, which may be constructed of copper or other (No model.)
suitable metal, is represented as formed with a flange, a, for connecting it to the body of the kettle or other vessel by the usual method of seaming. The bottom has conical sides or rim A, and at the lower edge of said rim it is bent horizontally, as shown at I), and then in an upward direction to form a convex extension, B, and afterward pressed down to produce a concave surface, (I.
The metal bottom thus constructed is entirely seamless, and possesses the requisite amount of strength and durability, and may be oval or round to correspond with the form of the kettle or vessel to which it is to be connected.
The concave surface O greatly adds to the strength of the bottom, increasing the rigidity of the other parts and rendering itless liable to bruise, sag, fall into wrinkles, and crack.
Having now fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
As an improved article of manufacture, a seamless metallic bottom for culinary boilers, formed with the flange a, conical sides or rim A, bent at its lower edge horizon tally, as shown at b, and then in an upward direction, to form the convex extension B, and afterward presed down to form a concave surface, 0, as described, and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony that I claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two witnesses.
CHARLES FRIEDEBORN.
