Description

{No Model.) v r J. W. GREENE.
SINGLE PIECE SHEET METAL SPOUT.
No. 530,587. Patented Dec. 11,1894.
, l vi/lmoow M i? /3 %MM UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN W. GREENE, OF OANANDAIGUA, NEW YORK, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO TRISTRAM D. BROWN, OF SAME PLACE.
SINGLE-PIECE SHEET-METAL SPOUT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 530,587, dated December 11, 1894.
Application-filed May 29, 1894. Serial No. 512,860- (No model.
To all whom/it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN W. GREENE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Oanandaigua, in the county of Ontario and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvement in Single-Piece Sheet-Metal Spouts; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention has relation to an improvement in spouts for vessels, and said spout consists of a single sheet of metal with a. fold in the under convex side thereof about midway between the end of said spout and the lower point of junction with the vessel, said fold extending transversely across the under side of said spout. I I
In the accompanying drawings: Figure 1, is a side view of a vessel provided with my improved spout. Fig. 2, is a perspective view of the spout. Fig. 3, is a plan view of the blank from which the spout is made. Fig. 4,
is a sectional view of part of the spout.
The blank is cut as outlined in Fig. 3, with the parts 1, and 2. The part 1, is then folded over on part 2, at the seam 3. The part 1, is then folded back at the seam 4. The blank is then put in a press and the under side of the spout is rounded up to the proper curve and angle, and the seam 4, will assume the shape indicated by the dotted line 5, (Fig. 3.) Thus the fold in the under side of the spout is formed. While the blank is in the press the parts 6, 6, are folded over and locked together as shown in Fig. 2. Thus the top of the spout is formed, and the flange 7,. is formed around the lower part of the spout. The spout is secured to the vesselby means of said flange 7. (See Fig. 1.)
The advantages of this spout are as follows:-It is made from one piece of sheet metal. The fold in the under side of the spout enable me to pitch the spout at any angle wanted. The fold in the under side of the spout also adds greatly to its strength.
Having described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
In a single piece sheet metal spent, the spout proper having a transverse foldvin the under convex side thereof, said fold adapted to add strength to the spout and also pitch it at the desiredpangle, as set forth.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
JOHN W. GREENE.
