ANNA HILL, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
CORSET-SHIELD.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 19, 1908.
Application filed January 14, 1908. Serial No. 410,735.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ANNA HILL, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city and county of Philadelphia, State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Corset-Shield, of which the following is a specification.
My invention consists of a shield, which is adapted to be applied to the interior of a corset and rest snugly and smoothly thereon, it being formed of material that will not absorb perspiration, retain odors, nor change the color of the eyelets or other fastenings of a corset, that may be readily washed and dried and so freshened, and adds but slight Weight to the corset.
For the purpose of explaining my invention, the accompanying drawing illustrates a satisfactory reduction of the same to practice, but the important instrumentalities thereof may be varied, and so it is understood that the invention is not limited to the specific arrangement and organization shown and describe Figure 1 represents a face view, in fiat condition, of a half section or member of a corset shield embodying my invention. Fig. 2 represents a section thereof on line Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the figures.
Referring to the drawing :A designates a section or half-portion of a shield for a corset, the same being made of oil-silk, Stork-sheeting or other non-absorbent material, and applied to the interior of one side of a corset to which it is secured in any suitable manner, it being evident that the other side of the corset will be similarly clad.
In forming the shield, I produce the body Athereof of a piece of the material stated and make incisions therein in respectively the top and bottom thereof near the sides of the piece, the walls of said incisions then being spread apart and gores B, B, B, B, approximately triangular in shape are inserted in the spaces as formed and secured to said walls. This flares-out the top and bottom of the body A at O, C, so that the body A conforms to the contour of the bust and hip portions of a corset and draws-in the sides side edges of the body and laterally and inwardly deflects the side portions of the body on the line of said in-drawn edges at an angle to the latter as at D, D, so as to conform to the waist portion of the corset, so that when the body is applied to the interior of a corset, it will rest snugly thereon without wrinkling or puckering and not add materially to the weight or thickness of a corset, it being noticed that the body will not absorb moisture, nor retain odor, and the eyelets or fastenings of the corset will not be discolored. In practice, two of these shields are applied to the corset, one upon either side or half thereof in any suitable manner, they being designed to be disposed upon the interior of the corset, as hereinbefore stated. Each section may be removed from the corset, washed with soap and dried with a towel, and sobe capable of renewed service.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is z- 1. A corset shield composed of a body having divided top and bottom portions, flaring gores inserted between the divisions and secured to the walls thereof, inturned side edges and portions of the body deflected laterally inwardly at an angle to said inturned edges.
2. A corset shield composed of.a body hav ing divided top and bottom portions with the side edges drawn in laterally and in wardly deflected on the line of said in-drawn edges at an an le to the latter.
3. A corset sliield composed of a body having divided top and bottom portions with the side edges drawn in laterally and inwardly deflected on the line of said in-drawn edges at an angle to the latter, and gores inserted in said top and bottom portions.
ANNA HILL.
