I BOOTJACK.
APPLIGATION FILED JAN. 20, 1908.

ALONZO EVERETT DAVIS, OF NAFTEL, ALABAMA.
BOOTJACK.
Application filed January 20, 1908.
T 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALoNzo E. DAVIS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Naftel, in the county of Montgomery and State of Alabama, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bootj acks and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in boot jacks and the object in view is to produce a simple and efficient device of this nature, comprising various details of construction, combinations and arrangements of parts which will be hereinafter fully described and then specifically defined in the appended claims.
I illustrate my invention in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of the boot jack. Fig. 2 is a detail perspective view showing the under side of a portion of the boot jack. Fig. 3 is a sectional view on line 33 of Fig. 2, and Fig. 4 is a sectional view on line 4-4 ofFig. 3.
Reference being now had to the details of the drawings by letter, A designates the shank portion of a boot jack, made preferably of wood, and is provided with a recess B at one end thereof between two forked arms C. The inner end of said recess is tapered as at D, and E designates a cleat projecting from the under side of the boot Specification of Letters Patent.

jack and upon which and the rear end of the boot jack the latter rests when it is desired to hold the latter at an angle for the reception of a boot to be-withdrawn from a foot. Each of said arms 0 is provided with an elongated slot F, and G is a cross piece adjustably held to said arms to fit different sized boots.
I I designates a rod substantially U-shaped, one being passed through each end of the .cross piece G, the end of which rod is threaded to receive a nut K. Each end of the rod is adapted to be passed through said slot and, when the nuts are fitted to the ends of the rods, the cross piece G may be securely clamped and held in an adjusted position.
What I claim to be new is 1. A boot jack having a recessed end forming forked arms, each of which is longitudinally slotted, a cross piece, rods carried by said cross piece and passing through the slots in said arms, and means-for holding the cross piece in an adjusted position, as set forth.
2. A boot ack having a recessed end forming forked arms, each of which is longitudinally slotted, a cross piece, U-shaped rods passing through apertures in said cross piece, the ends of said rods being threaded and extending through slots in said arms, and nuts mounted upon the threaded end of said rods, as set forth.
In testimony whereof I hereunto affiX my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
ALONZO EVERETT DAVIS.
