Description
PATENTED SEPT. 29, 1903.
W. H. MoDONALD. PIANO PEDAL EXTENSION.
APPLICATION FILED JUNE 8. 1903.
N0 MODEL.
[/VVENTOR:
C) Attorney,-
UNITED STATES Patented September 29, 1903.
PATENT OFFICE.
PIANO-PEDAL EXTENSION.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 740,302, dated September 29, 1903.
Application filed June 8,1903. Serial No. 160,618. (No model.)
' To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that '1, WILLIAM H. McDon- ALD, residing at North Platte, in the county of Lincoln and State of Nebraska, have invented certain useful Improvements in Piano- Pedal Extensions; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to a new improvement in piano-pedal attachments.
The object of my invention is to provide an attachment by means of which the pedal may be extended so that children may be able to reach the pedal with their feet in playing a piano.
In Figure 1 I have shown a broken view of the lower portion of the piano, showing my.
pedal attachments in position. Fig. 2 shows a View, partly in section, disclosing the arrangement of the clamp. Fig. 3 shows a top view of the auxiliary pedal. Fig. 4 shows a broken elevation disclosing the arrangement of the extension-bar, while Fig. 5 shows a top view disclosing the arrangement of the clamping-jaws.
Myinvention embodies, essentially, a bar 7, which is provided below with a head 6 in the form of an enlargement, which head is diskshaped and has its two opposite faces serrated. This head 6 is provided with suitable holds, as is shown in Fig. 2. This bar 7 is provided above with a cap 7, preferably threaded upon the bar, and working upon' this bar 7 is an auxiliary pedal 12, provided with a guiding-collar, through which extends an opening a, which is shown in Fig. 3 and which is provided with a set-screw b, so that the auxiliary pedal 12 may be positioned at any point upon the bar 7. WVorking within the head 6 are the lugslO, which lugs form a portion of the clamping-jaws 3, as shown in Fig. 2. Two such clamping-jaws 3 are used,
and these clamping-jaws have their upper end 2, as is shown in Fig. 4E, serrated or notched to correspond with the serrations on the head 6, as shown in Figs. 2 and 5. Passing through one of the clamping-jaws and threading into the opposite one, as shown in Fig. 2, is a screw 8', so that the jaws are securely fastened to the piano-pedals B, so that these jaws in turn are securely bound to the extension-rod 7, and bymeans of the serrated faces or upper portions of these jaws 3 the forward.
Having thus described my'invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by United States Letters Patent, is-
1. In a device of the character described,a combination with a bar, of two counterpart jaws screw-connected and adapted to be adjustably clamped to the lower end of said bar, and an auxiliary pedal slidably and revolubly adjusted upon said bar, as and for the purpose set forth.
2. A combination with a bar provided below with an enlarged serrated head and having central openings, of two counterpart clamping-jaws, provided with central lugs, said lugs working into said openings, a screw to unite said jaws and clamp them together,v
and an auxiliary pedal, slidably and revolubly secured to said bar, all arranged substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
WILLIAM H. MCDONALD.
Witnesses:
GEORGE O. DOWLEN, SAMUEL GoozEE.
