UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
STANISLAS. FOSSIER, OF NEW ORLEANS, LOUISIANA.
'FANNING ATTACHMENT FOR MACHINES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 2.68,!557, dated December 5, 1882,
Application filed April 26, 1882. (No model.)
by the trendle of the machine.
The invention consists of a fanning attachment formed of a vertical pivoted rod held on the machine-top, in which vertical rod a fanhandle is pivoted, which fan-handle is connected by a cord with the treadle of the machine. This fan-handle is provided at its lower end with a sleeve for attaching other fan-handles to this pivoted fan-handle. The fans may be provided with advertisements on one or both sides. t
ttet'erence is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in both the figures.
Figure l is a perspective view of my improved fanningmachine. Fig. 2 is a longi tudinal sectional elevation of the sleeve for attaching the fan-rods.
A vertical rod, A, is pivoted at end of a clamp rod or bar, B, adapted to be clamped or otherwise secured on the edge of the table G of a sewing-machine,jig-saw, or similar machine. A rod, D, passes through a slot and is pivoted in the rod A, and to the upper end of this rod D a fan, E, of any desired construction, is attached. To the lower end of this rod D a sleeve, F, is held by means of a bindingscrew,-G. This sleeve is provided with a di agonal aperture, through which a fan-handle rod, H, can he passed, which rod H projects downward, and has a fan, J, attached to its lower end. This rod H is held on the sleeve F by means of a binding -screw, K. A fanhandle rod, L, can be passed into the lower end of the sleeve F, and can be held in the same by means of a binding-screw,M. A spiral or other spring, N, is attached to the pivoted rod 1) and to the vertical pivoted rod A, which 0, or equivalent device P is attached to the lower part ofthe rod D and to the treadle of the machine.
If the machine is operated, the fans E and J will be operated, the fan E fanning the face and upper part of the body of the operator, and the fan J fanning the legs and lower part of the body of the operator.
If desired, the fan J may be removed and a fan-rod, L, attached to the lower end of the sleeve F, the fan on the rod L being used to fan another person near the machine.
As the rod A is pivoted on the rod or bar B, it can be turned inanydirection, as may be required.
The fans are to be provided with advertisementsof any desired kind on one or both sides.
The .rods and bars are to be made of wood or metal.
Having thus fully described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Lettels Pat-ent 1. In a fanning attachment for machines, the combination, with the pivoted rod A, of the pivoted fan-handle l), the fan E,the sleeve F, the fan-handle H, the fan J, the spring N, and the cord 0,subs tantially as herein shown and described, and for the purpose set forth.
2. In a fanning attachment for machines, the combination, with the pivoted rod A, of the pivoted tan-handle D,the fan E,the spring N, the cord 0, and the sleeve F for holding other fan-handles to the fan handle D, substantially as herein shown and described, and for the purpose set forth.
