Description

A; E. WOLFORD. ADJUSTABLE QUILTING FRAME.
(-No Mode 1.)
Patented Aug. 18, 1896.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ANNA E. WOLFORD, OF LEXINGTON, OHIO.
ADJUSTABLE QUlLTlNG-FRAM E.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 566,049, dated August 18, 1896.
Application filed April 10, 1 8 9 6 Serial No. 86 ,9 5 9. (No model.)
' citizen of the United States, residing at Lexington, in the county of Richland and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Adjustable Quilt-Frames; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in quilting-frames, and it has for its objects among others to provide a simple, light, and cheap portable frame that can be adjusted to any sewing-machine and adapted to be moved along as the machine sews. The frame can be adjusted to diiferent lengths for different sizes of quilts or whatever it may be desired to quilt.
The device is mounted upon rollers and may be formed of wood or of metal or of a combination of the two materials.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will hereinafter appear, and the novel features thereof will be specifically defined by the appended claim.
The invention resides in the peculiar combinations and the construction, arrangement, and adaptation of parts, all as more fully hereinafter described, shown in the drawings, and then particularly pointed out in the claim.
The invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawings, which, with the letters of reference marked thereon, form a part of this specification, and in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improvement. Fig. 2 is an end elevation.
Like letters of reference indicate like parts throughout both views.
Referring now to. the details of the drawings by letter, A designatesthe frame, which may be of wood or metal or a combination of the two materials, mounted upon rollers B, so that it may be easily moved about when desired.
C is a roller upon which the quilt is designed in length, so that the frame can be made longer or shorter as may be required. Any suitable form of devices may be employed for adjusting the same and for holding them in their adjusted positions. It may be an adjustable slide G with means, as a set-screw, for securing the same when desired.
H are sliding clamps for holding the end of the quilt, and these may be adjusted in the direction of the length of the rod or bar upon which they are mounted.
The operation will be readily understood. The device is moved along as the quilt is quilted and carries the work after it has been sewed by the sewing-machine.
The ends of the frame may be braced by any suitable form of brace-rods, if necessary.
Modifications in detail may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of the invention or sacrificing any of its advantages.
What is claimed as new is-- A portable quilting-frame composed of tubular bars and couplings and adjustable in length and mounted upon rollers and having a roller with ratchets and pawls pivotally mounted to engage said ratchets, and a bar parallel with the roller and adapted to be placed under the arm of a sewing-machine and clamps slidingly mounted on said bar, substantially as specified.
In testimony whereof I have signed this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
ANNA E. WOLFORD.
