SWINGING-WINDOW CATCH.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented April 28, 1908.
Application filed. June 19, 1907. Serial No. 379,772.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, PIErRo Boeero, a citizen of the United States, residing at West Hoboken, in the county of Hudson and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Swinging-Window Catches, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
My invention relates especially to means and mechanism for automatically holding horizontally swinging window sashes closed and locked, and for releasing the lock, and swinging the sash, holding it open at any desired angle; and has for its object the provision of an extremely simple, compact, durable and effective device of this character.
To attain the desired end, my invention consists in a swinging window catch in which is compressed a lock made in two parts; a
sliding bolt having a slot therein, and a weighted, pivoted lever, arranged to engage in said slot and actuate the bolt in looking the catch; and my invention also in volves certain novel and useful combinations or arrangements of parts, and peculiarities of construction and operation, all of which will be hereinafter first fully described, and then pointed out in the claims.
In the drawing, Figure 1 is a side elevation of a device embodying my invention, and Fig. 2 is a front elevation thereof.
Similar numerals of reference, wherever they occur, indicate corresponding parts in both figures.
1 is the frame of a window.
2 is a hollow metal sash.
4 is a bolt slidably mounted within the sash, and having slots 5 and a projecting eye 6 for the reception of a manipulating chain.
8 is a weight, pivoted at 3, and having tongues 9 arranged to enter the slots 5 in the bolt 4. The device is located entirely Within the hollow sash, with the exception of the manipulating eye.
Having now fully described my invention, what I claim as new therein and desire to' secure by Letters Patent, is:
In a swinging window catch, the combination with a hollow window sash, of a catchbolt mounted therein, and having amanipulating arm projecting from the hollow sash, and a controlling weight pivoted at the side of the bolt, entirely within the window sash, and engaging with the bolt, substantially as shown and described.
