U ITED STATES PATENT OFFICE;
CYRUS KINNEY, OF DEREHAM TOWNSHIP, OXFORD COUNTY, CANADA.
IMPROVEMENT IN SASH-FASTENERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 157,452, dated December 8, 1874; application filed October 23, 1874.
CASE B.
tainin g them when open at any required height.
I attach two suitably-notched strips of metal or other suitable material, A, of the shape shown in accompanying drawing, by means of screws passing through their upper ends to the sides of the sashes, one being fixed to the upper sash, and the other to the lower. The lower ends of these swinging strips of metal are allowed to Work freely backward and forward on the screw B in their upper end, and
from their construction will always lie against the stop C unless held back. On the faces of the swinging strips next the stop a series of notches or teeth, D,is formed, and 011 the stop, at any required height, studs or catches E E E E are fixed, which arrest and fix the swinging strips or holders A in the following manner:
In the accompanying drawing, the lower sash is shown closed, with, the holder A resting against the stop C, and engaging in its lower notch with the stud or catch E. In this position the sash remains locked until the swinging holder is drawn back by means of the point F, and the sash may then be raised, and at any required height the holder will maintain it by one or other of its notches or teeth engaging With catch E or, if the window is opened to its full height, with the catch E The upper sash and its notched swinging holder work in a precisely similar manner by engaging with the catch E.
I claim as my invention The notched metal strips A A, constructed as shown, and moving freely on the screws B B, in combination with the catches E E E E when attached to the sash and sash-stop, substantially as and for the purpose described.
