Description

r. 1. Buses.
Blind-Stops. 10.155,138. Patented sept. 22,1874.
THE GRAPHIC C0. PHUTULITHJQ x4-I PARK FLACEJLY.
UNITED STATES PATENT, OFFICE.
FRANCIS J. BOGGS, OF KANSAS CITY, MISSOURI.
IMPROVEMENT IN BLIND-STOPS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 155,138., dated September 22, 1874; application led August 14, 1874.
To all whom t 'may concern:
Beit known that I, FRANCIS J. BOGGS, of Kansas City, county of Jackson and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Device for Governing the Motion of Slats in Window-Blinds, Doors, 8vo., of which the following is a specication:
My invention consists in the construction and arrangement of a series of slats and a connecting-bar with a notched plate, spring, and trigger, for governing the movement of window-blinds, doors, Sto., whereby such slats may be locked from the inside and adjusted at any desired angle, as will be hereinafter more fully described.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing, which forms a part of this specification, and in which- Figure l is a front View of a window-blind embodying` my invention, and Fig. 2 is a transverse section of the same.
A represents the blind-frame 5 B B, the movable slats, and C the rod or bar connecting the slats, said parts being all constructed in any of the known and usual ways. The lower end of the connecting-bar C is provided with a metal stirrup, D, the sides of which have notches x :v at suitable intervals in their front edges. The center or lower part of the stirrup is provided Vwith a projecting thumb-piece or 7 handle, E, which is slotted longitudinally for the passage of the lower end of a wire trigger, a, fastened to the bar C between the sides of the stirrup. To the lower rail of the frame A are fastened the ends of a wire, which are coiled to form springs b b, and the center of the wire to form a loop, Gr, across the front edges ofthe sides of the stirrup D, the springs b causing said loop to be held tightly against the stirrup. To the upper rail of the frame A is attached a spring, J, to catch over and bear against the upper end of the bar C when the Aslats B are closed. In this position the loop G is in the bottom notches on the stirrup, and the slats B locked firmly in position.
By taking hold of the handle E and pulling forward on the trigger a, the spring-loop G is released from said notches, and the slats may be placed at any angle desired to admit more or less light, and when so adjusted they are held by the loop entering other notches x.
By this device the rattling of the slats in windy weather is also prevented.
The device is cheap and simple, and may be applied to any windows and doors of the class now in use, as well as to new ones.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination, with the slats B and connectin g-bar C, of the notched metallic stirrup D, having slotted handle E, trigger e, and spring-loop Gr, substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention I hereunto affix my signature.
FRANCIS J. BOGGS.
