MANIFOLDING APPARATUS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented April 7, 1908.
Application fried December 7, i907. serai No. 405,567.
tus; and l do hereby declare the following to be afull, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
` This invention relates to new `nd useful improvements in manifolding app ratus and consists essentially in the provisi n of a casing adapted to hold an account book and provided With hinged sheet holdin@ frames, each having an elongated opening tl ereinthrough which the writing upon a tablet and one leaf of the book is effected, a carbo sheet being interposed. between a leaf of the b let and the tablet.
The invention comprises more specifically a casing having hinged means for clamping a leaf of an account book and a carbon sheet for holding the same in place in readiness to enter an account upon a sheet of the book and also upon a tablet held by the hinged part against the book.
The invention comprises various details of construction and combinations and arrangements of parts which will be hereinafter fully described and then specifically defined in the appended claims.
My invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure l is a perspective view of my improved apparatus for manifolding. Fig. 2 is a detail view showing the hinged cover open, Figs. 3, 4 and 5 are sectional views.
Reference now being had to the details of the drawings by letter, A designates a boX or casing which may be of metal or any other suitable material, and B is a hinged sheet holding frame mounted upon one side of the casing and has an elongated opening C therein.
Dis a second sheet holding frame which is hinged to the edge of the frame B and is of similar construction, being provided with an opening of a size corresponding with the opening in the frame B.
E designates fasteners which arc hinged to the sheet holding frame D and adapted to engage over the edge of the frame B whereby the two frames may be held in clamping relation with each other.
F designates an account book, the body portion of which is seated in said casing, and a single leaf of the account book is adapted to be interposed between the two frames together with a carbon sheet N, which two are clamped by the frames in the manner shown in the drawings.
be placed within the box or casing and against the account book in the manner shown in the drawings. s
The parts being thus assembled with the coated surface of the carbon inside or toward the tablet, the two frames are closed down vagainst the tablet holding a leaf of the account book and the carbon sheet in the manner shown. The entries are made upon the outer face of the sheet of the account book which is held by the two frames and, as the entries are made, they are manifolded upon the sheet of the tablet, being a duplication of the original entry upon the first page of the account book. The successive leaves of the account book 'may be treated in the same way and each entry will be a duplication upon the tablet sheets. After the entries have been made upon the sheets of the ledger said leaves may be turned back Vbehind the ledger and inserted within the casing.
It is my purpose to provide an apparatus of the construction shown and described for each person having an account and provide a suitable cabinet which may be lettered in alphabetical order or otherwise and so are ranged that it will be convenient to access.
By this system, it will be noted that a simple and-efficient means is afforded whereby an original entry may be made upon the leaves of the account book and the duplicate upon sheets of the tablet which may be handed to a customer at each sale or as often as the customer may wish a statement of his account and, if not so used, it may be filed away under the tablet or back of the account book or ledger. i
What I claim to be new is l, A manifolding apparatus comprising a casing, a frame hinged to the side of the casing and provided with an opening, a second frame hinged to the first mentioned frame and provided with an opening adapted to register with the opening in the other frame, as set forth. i
O designates a tablet which is adapted to ,i
and provided with an opening adapted to register with the opening in the other frame, a hook pivotaliy connected to the end of one of said frames and adapted to hold the two together, as set forth.
In testimony whereof I hereunto aX my signature in the presence of two Witnesses.
CHARLES W. BYHAM.
