IMPROVEMENT IN GAS-PURIFIERS.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 88,326, dated March 30, 1869.

To all whom it may concern:

. Be it known that I, PETER MUNZINGER, of the city and county of Philadelphia, and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new `and useful Improvement in Gas-Purifiers; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying sheet of drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon.

My improvement consists in forming a gaspurier in such sections as are hereinafter shown and described, that its capacity may be increased or decreased at will.

On reference to the accompanying sheet of drawings, making part of this specication, Figure l is a perspective view of my improved gas-purifier. Fig. 2 is also a perspective view of the same in parts, and Fig. 3 is an enlarged perspective view of Fig. 1.

Similar letters refer to similar parts in the several views.

A is a gas-purifier with inlet and outlet pipes. B is a chamber, into which is received a number of perforated lin1e-trays, carried by suitable ribs or projections.

C is a water-cup, extending around the upper part of the purier. The lid of the same is made, as usual, With depending edges, which enter the watercups, making a water-tight joint. It permits of being raised to get at the lime whenever it requires changing.

My improved purifier is composed of the corner or angle pieces, D E F G, and the bot tom piece, H, Fig. 2, bolted or otherwise held together, the Water cup or groove C being cast with and forming the upper portion of each individual piece or section.

Should it be required to enlarge the puriier in the direction of its length the angle or corner sections and the bottom are unbolted at their side joints, and spread sufficiently to admit the side sections, I, and an additional bottom section, H, which completes the longitudt nal enlargement, which may be extended indefinitely. (Enlargement shown in Fig. 3.)

4To increase the Width end sections, J, are inserted between the end legs of the angle or corner sections, and corresponding sections are added to the bottom.

The flanges a and b are formed on the outside and inside of the sections for facility in putting together, so as not to interfere with `the depending edges of the lid or cap. The

flanges and butting parts of the several sections are planed or otherwise made true to insure perfectly-tight joints.

The enlargement sections, both sides and ends, are precisely similar in construction to the legs of the angle or corner sections, having the same water cup or groove and flanges. The same may be remarked of the bottom sections.

What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
