Description

O. J. NUTTING.
Milk Can.
Patented Nov. 3, 1868.
.N, PETERS, Hum-Lithographer. Washington. D. C.
" 0. J. NUTTIN-G, OF. WARWICK, NEW-YORK. teammate No. 83,724, dated November 3, 1868. t
DEPROVELENT IN MILK-CAN,
The Schedule referred to in the Letters Patent and making part of the same.
To whom it may concern:
Be it known-that I, o. J. Home, of Warwick, in
the county of Orange, and State of New'York, have invented a new and useful Improvement irfMilk Caus and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference bein had to the accompanying drawings, forming part 0 this specification, in which the drawing represents a sectional elevation of my improved Similar letters of reference indicate like parts.
The object of thisinvention to provide a milk can, of simple and cheap construction, which shall at the saine time possess a highdegree of durability.
It consists of a can, the body of which is constructed of one single case, and provided-with grooves internally, at the top, and near the bottom, for securing the top and bottom, and with a bruise-hoop within.
the lower end; also provided with an inclined top, the sides of which being straight, or nearly straight, render the joint of the same with the top of the body much stronger than when the same is curved, so as to rise more directly up from the top of the body. Moreover, when the top is curved to any 'material extent, the tin is so stretched as to greatly weaken it.
.A representsthe body, which is made straight, and provided with internal grooves a and b, for receiving the edges of the-bottom and top. The said coves Vfumish *sufiicient space for a large amount 0 solder. v tosurround the edges, and, to a considerable extent,
the sides of the sheets which constitute the hottouih and tops,-and thereby make very strong-joints. They also admit of-the parts being removed, and new ones;
put in their places, when necessary to do so. a
B represents a bruise-hoop, secured within the body, below the bottom, for strengthening the same;
The top, 0, is so formedthat the inclined portion is straight, or nearly so,wherebyit moreefiectually braces the joint of the same with the body, against concussions or bruises from the outside, and the material is not unduly stretched, and thereby weakened,- as is often the case when the top is curved to any material extent.
It will be perceived that by reason of the arrange" ment of the bruise-hdo'p, inside of the body, there is no chance for water to enter between them and produce rust, as will occur when the hoops are on the outside.
Having thus described my invention,
I claim as new, and desire tosecure by Letters Patentv The described construction of the milk-can,'consisting of the body A, provided at 'top and bottom with internal grooves b a, for receiving the edges of the top, 0, and bottom, the latter being supported by the bruise-hoop B, secured within the body, below the bottom, as herein shown and described.
