RODERICK ALEXANDER MCDONALD AND JOSEPH SAL'IER, OF NORTH SIDE BOULARDERIE, NOVA SCOTIA, CANADA.
HAIR DRESSER AND TRIMMER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 18, 1908.
Application filed January 26. 1907. Serial No. 354221.
To all whom 'it may concern:
Be it known that we, RODERICK ALEXAN- DER MCDONALD and JOSEPH SALTER, subjects of the Kin of Great Britain, residing at North Side %3oularderie, county of Victoria, Province of Nova Scotia, Canada, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hair Dressers and Trimmers; and we do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
Our invention relates to hair trimming and dressing devices; the object of our invention is to provide an instrument for trimming hair and for dressin the same; a more specific object is to provide means for locking a pivoted blade within a slotted member provided with teeth; and, further, to provide a simple, compact instrument; and, our invention consists of the construction, combination and arrangement of parts as herein illustrated, described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, forming part of this application, we have illustrated one form of embodiment of our invention, in which drawings similar reference characters designate corresponding parts, and in which:
Figure 1 is a side elevation; Fig. 2 is a plan; Fig. 3 is an end elevation looking at the righthand end of Fig. 1 Fig. 4 is a transverse vertical section on line 44-of Fig. 1, looking in the direction indicated by the arrow; Fig. 5 is a side elevation of a modified form, showing the application of an ordinary razor blade.
Referring to the drawings, 1 designates a body having formed therein a longitudinal slot 2, and provided with teeth 3 on one edge, into which the slot 2 extends. Movably disposed in the slot 2 is a razor blade 4, secured by means of the pivot 5 and having its op osite end locked as by means of the pivote link 6 (Figs. 1 and 2).
The end of the body 1 to which the blade 1 4 is pivoted is provided with the lugs 7, leaving a smooth, clear space 8 to afford a grip- 1 ping surface for the user.
In use, the implement will be used for trimming the hair when the blade 4 lies within the slot 2.
When not in use, the device may be placed in a small case, so that it maybe conveniently carried.
Having thus fully described our invention,
what we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. In a device of the character described, the combination of a body, teeth depending therefrom, a longitudinal slot extenidng through said body and into said teeth, a blade pivoted to the body and adapted to lie in the slot, and means for locking the blade in the slot.
2. In a device of the character described, the combination of a body, teeth depending therefrom, a longitudinal slot extending through said body and into said teeth, a blade pivoted to the body and adapted to lie in the slot, and means pivotally connected to the handle and adapted to lock the blade in the slot.
3. In a device of the character described, the combination of a body, teeth depending therefrom, a longitudinal slot extending through said body and into said teeth, a
blade pivoted to the body and adapted to lie in the slot, and a link pivotally connected to the handle and adapted to lock the blade in the slot.
4. In a devi e of the character described, the combination of a body, teeth depending therefrom, a longitudinal slot extending through said body and into said teeth, ablade )ivoted to the body and adapted to lie in the slot, and a link pivotally connected to the handle and adapted to overlie and embrace the end of the blade to thereby lock the same in the slot.
In witness whereof we have hereunto set our hands in the presence of two witnesses.
RODERICK ALEXANDER MCDONALD. JOSEPH SALIER.
Witnesses WM. CANN, H. MoULToN.
