A. C. BOOTH.
HANDLE 0P BRUSHES AND OTHER MANICURING ARTICLES. APPLICATION FILED APR.24,1906.
luuexmfoz UNITED STATES Pr lTENT OFFTQE.
ALBA O. BOOTH, OF BURLINGTON, VERMONT.
HANDLE OF BRUSHES AND OTHER MANICURING ARTICLES.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALBA O. Boo'rn, a citizen of the United States, residing at Burlington, in the county of Ohittenden and State of Vermont, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in llandles of Brushes and other hilanicuring Articles, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
My invention relates to improvements in brush handles, and pertains more particularly to means for marking the same.
The object of my invention is to provide a solid handle portion of toilet brushes and other manicuring articles with words, characters, or marks, by means of which the brush may be readily designated without in any Way affecting the use or convenience of the article.
Another object of my invention isto provide a more simple, cheap and effective de vice of this character, in which the label carrying the words, characters or marks may be readily inserted or removed, and in which said label is protected by a water-proof material independent of the label.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1, is a perspective view of a tooth brush showing my invention applied thereto. Fig. 2, is a longitudinal sectional vertical sectional view of the handle showing the label and Water-proof protector therein. Fig. 3, is a transverse sectional view taken on the line of Fig. 2. F l, is an enlarged perspective view of the label and water-proof protector removed.
Referring now to the drawings, 1 represents an ordinary tooth brush which is pro- Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed April 24. 1906. Serial No. 313.426.
vided with the usual bristles 2, and the elon.

l hereinafter more fully described. The curved end walls, as indicated at S, are overhanging l or under cut walls, which allows of a holding l means for the label and the water-prm f material. These overhanging or under en t walls are very slight, which is sullicient to hold the label and the water-proof material therein, making the insertion and removal of the same very easy. The label 10 is made of a sheet of paper of any description, and is of a size and shape to correspond with the recess, and to extend under the overhanging walls 8. The water-proof material ll is of a like size and also extends under the overhanging walls 8, and the recess is slightly greater than the thickness of the label and \\"aterproof same. The label or paper when the brush is purchased is perfectly plain, and the word, character, or mark by which the brush is to be designated is placed thereon and the water-proof material placed in the opening over the same and protecting it.
By the foregoing description it will be seen that the proper mark is placed upon the paper or label 10 and one end thereof slipped under one overhanging wall 8 of the recess and the label slightly bowed outwardly, as indicated in Fig. 2, so that the opposite end is passed under the overhanging or under-cut wall at the opposite end of the recess, and. the label 'lirmly held therein and the vertical walls 7 allowing the same to freely pass into the recess. The water-proof protector being preferably of celluloid is more elastic, and when inserted in the same manner as the label, it springs into position and 'lirmly holds the label in position, and also protects it against moisture to which a brush of this character is subjected.
While i have shown and described the end walls as overhanging, it will be understood but not shown that the side walls may be overhanging and the end walls vertical, without departing from my invention.
l: have shown for the purpose of illustration, my device as applied to a tooth brush, but it will be understood that the same is intended to be used on any handle for marking a brush. or the like. i
Having thus described my invertion, what material to allow the ready insertion of the.
I claim and desire to secure by Letters Pat ent is:-
A solid handle of articles for the'toile't, having an elon ated recess therein having two opposite Wills verticaland two opposite Walls undercut, and a flexible label Within said recess and extending under the under cut Walls an d retained thereby in the recess.
In testimony whereof I do afiix my signer ture 1n presence oftWo Witnesses.
ALBA C. BOOTH.
Witnesses l/VM. M. DULLAHAN, SHERMAN R. MOULTON.
