To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that we, Josnrrr B. GRooMn and EDDIE WV. BEAN, citizens of the United States, residing at Revere and West Lynn, respectively, in the counties of Suffolk and Essex, respectively, and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Guards; and we do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to new and useful improvements in guards and more particularly to that class of guards which is adapted to be secured to the wrist of a wearer to prevent water from running up the sleeve.

Another object of the invention is the provision of a novel device which may be easily and quickly put in place on the wrist and by which the above result may be accomplished.

A further object of the invention is the provision of a guard which will prevent the sleeves of the user from becoming splashed or wet when the device is in use.

With the above and other objects in view the invention consists of the following combination and arrangement of parts to be more fully set forth in the specification and drawings, in which,

Referring now to the drawings by characters of reference the numeral 1 designates as an entirety the first form of the wrist guard which comprises a ring 2 of soft flexible rubber or the like. This ring is substantially oval in plan as clearly illustrated in Fig. 1 and is provided with a tapered outer wall 3. ened end is preferably provided the flange L which is molded or otherwise formed to extend forwardly as illustrated at 5. This forward extension 5 is turned slightly inward to bring the walls thereof in parallel relation with the wall 3 of the ring 2 and is provided at its outer extremity with an annular bead 6. This ring 2 is separated at one side by a short space and the ends of the ring terminate in the closed portion 7.

Should it be so desired at any time it will be evident that the resilient clamping member 8, which conforms generally to the contour of the ring 2, and is provided with the out-turned portion 9, may be inserted in the trough 10 formed by the wall 3 and the wall of the extension 5, as clearly shown in Fig. 3, to more firmly clamp the device to the users wrist.

In the modified form of the invention which is illustrated from Figs. 5 to 7 inclusive, we preferably provide the body portion 11, the outer wall of which tapers, as clearly illustrated by the numeral 12. An extension 13 is formed on the body portion 11 and is turned outwardly as clearly illustrated in Fig. 6 to form the annular trough 1 L. Formed integral with and extending rearwardly from the extension 13 is preferably provided the extension 15 which flares toward its outer end and forms a gauntlet which is adapted to extend over the sleeve of the user and prevent the same from be coming splashed or wet when the device is in use. A suitable clamping element 16 may be placed in the trough 14 if so desired by the user.

It will be clearly seen from the foregoing that when it is desired to make use of the invention the same may be slipped over the wrist of the user and if he is using the type, illustrated in Figs. 1 to a inclusive, that water will be prevented from going up his sleeve and wetting the arm, but in this type no protection is afforded to the sleeve. In the construction illustrated in Figs. 5 to 7, inclusive, it is evident that the same action will take place in regard to the arm of the wearer but furthermore the sleeve will be protected and prevented from becoming splashed or wet. In using the clamping ele ments 8 or 16 it will be apparent that the device will more closely fit the wrist and be held more firmly in place.
