DORA DUNCAN, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
AUTOMOBILE-VEIL.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 5, 1907.
Application filed April 5, 1907- $erial No. 366.638.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Dorm DUNCAN, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the borough of Manhattan, of the city of New York, in the county and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Automobile-Veils, of which the following is a description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part hereof.
The object of the invention is to provide an automobile veil which shall be capable of being conveniently fitted upon and tied about the head of the wearer and which when so fitted shall remain in place, and which shall be particularly adapted to secure upon the head of the wearer a hat or other head-dress firmly and com-- fortably.
In accordance with the invention a veil of the ordinary shape, that is a relatively long rectangular strip of veiling, is divided from each end by cutting in to a point not very far distant from the center of the veil and thus forming at either end of the veil two long strips or flaps. In this way, when the central portion of the veil is placed upon the head of the wearer, one of the strips or flaps on one side of the veil and the corresponding strip or flap on the other side of the veil can be brought down and tied underneath the chin while the other pair of flaps can be brought around the neck and tied.
The invention will be more fully explained in connection with the accompanying drawings in which,
Figure 1 is a plan view of a veil embodying the improvements. Fig. 2 is a similar view on a smaller scale showing the veil about to be placed upon the head of the wearer, Figs. 3, 4 and 5 are views representing the successive stages of tying the veil upon the head of the wearer. Fig. 6 is a rear view of the head of the wearer,
and, Fig. 7 is a side view, showing the veil fully secured upon the head of the wearer.
The rectangular piece of veiling is clearly shown in Figs. 1 and 2, and as will be observed, is slit or cut or otherwise divided from either end at A and B. The slitting or dividing of the veil is made preferably along a central line, or substantially so, and extends inwardly to points not far from the center, forming four strips or flaps E, F, G, H.
When the veil is to be placed upon the head of the wearer, it is held up in front of the face in substantially the position illustrated in Fig. 2. Then the top part of the veil is folded over and back upon the head of the wearer as in Fig. 3, the pair of flaps G and H being brought down and tied underneath the chin as in Fig. 4. Finally the other pair of flaps E and F are brought around the neck and sides of the. face as in Fig. 5 and tied as in Fig. 6.
It will be obvious that a transparent piece as O and a coarser veiling as D may be inserted so as to come substantially in front of the face, if desired. It will also be obvious that the proportions of the veil and the relation of the length of the veil to the length of the slits A and B may be varied without departing from the invention.
I claim as my invention:
An automobile veil comprising a strip of veiling divided longitudinally from each end and thereby forming" two pairs of flaps, one pair of flaps being adapted to he brought around andtied under the chin and the other pair of flaps being adapted to pass around the neck and tied.
DORA DUNCAN.
