ANNA O. LINCOLN, OF SAVANNAH, GEORGIA.
THREAD-CUTTER AND HEM-CREASER.
Specification a Letters Patent.
Patented Apr. 8, 1919.
Application filed June 14, 1918. Serial No. 240,031.
To all whomit may concern:
Be it known that I, ANNA C. LINCOLN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Savannah, in the county of Chatham and State of Georgia, have invented new and useful Improvements in Thread-Cutters and Hem-Creasers, of which the following is a specification.
It is desirable, in sewing garments that a convenient means be provided not only for severing a thread, but for creasing a hem upon the garment.
It is my purpose to produce a combined thread cutter and hem creaser in combination with an ordinary thimble.
It is also my purpose to produce a device of this character which shall be of an extremely simple and cheap construction, which may be readily attached to any ordinary construction of thimbles and which shall be thoroughly efiicient for the purpose devised.
I accomplish the foregoing objects by a simple construction and arrangement of parts, a satisfactory exemplification of which is illustrated by the drawings.
In the drawings,
Figure 1 is a perspective view illustrating the improvement.
Fig. 2 is a sectional view approximately on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a sectional view approximately on the line 33 of Fig. 1.
In the drawings the numeral 5 designates an ordinary thimble and 6 my improvement in its entirety. The improvement 6 may be attached to the outer closed end of the thimble in any desired or preferred manner, as for instance such outer end of the thimble may be slotted, or the member 6 may have its inner edge concaved to correspond to the contour of the outer end of the thimble and may be soldered thereto. It is to be therefore understood that I do not limit myself to the manner in which the improvement is attached to the thimble.
The improvement is preferably in the nature of a rectangular plate. The plate is provided with a widened base, as clearly illustrated in Fig. 2 of the drawings, and this base has its outer surface concaved to be snugly arranged upon the convexed outer end of the thimble 5. The plate 6, at the outer end thereof is also widened providing what may be termed a head, the said head being round in cross section, so that the same provides a bead, and this bead is designed for creasing the goods being sewed. The ends 8 of the plate 6 are beveled from their opposite sides to the center thereof, thus producing cutting edges 9. These cutting edges do not extend into the bead, and if desired, the bead may be projected a slight distance over the said cutting edges, thus offering protective means for the said edges.
It is believed the simplicity of the construction and the advantages thereof will be apparent. It will be seen that a thread may be severed by drawing the same a ainst either of the cutting elements 9 and t at a hem may be creased by simply pressing the outer edge or the bead 7 of the element 6 against the garment and drawing the same thereover.
Having thus described the invention,
what I claim is:
In combination with a thimble, a plate secured transversely on the outer end thereof, said plate having its outer edge formed with a bead and its ends sharpened, and the said sharpened ends terminatmg inward of the bead.
In testimony whereof I aifix m si ANNA C. LIII ature. LN.
