UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
THROAT-PROTE C'IOR.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 5, 1907.
Application filed February 2. 1907- Serial No. 355,496.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES EDWARD WINns, of the city of Winnipeg Province of Manitoba, Canada, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Tln'oat-Protectors: and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same.
My invention consists of a protector attached to the collar of a coat and adapted to protect the portion of the throat contiguous to the neck opening of such coat.
For full comprehension, however, of my invention, reference must be had to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification in which like symbols indicate the same parts and wherein Figure 1 illustrates my invention in use; Fig 2 is a detail plan view of my improved protector; and Fig. 3 is a longitudinal sectional view thereof taken on line A. A. Fig. 2.
The protector may be-made of any material (indicated at b) used in the manufacture of coats, such, for instance, as corduroy, cloth, duck, or the like, and provided with a lining c of fur, sheep-skin, or other material preferably stitched to it. These parts are cut to present a strip 0 acting as a cover for the portion of the neck, or linen collar f, exposed between the ends of collar g of the coat when turned up. This strip 0 is preferably made in one piece with a depending portion 7; extended in width towards its lower end which is preferably rounded, and in order to enable the pro tector to be held in place the ends of the said strip are formed with button holes at, while the lower end of the protector has a loop a, and a pair of buttons p are sewn upon the under side of the coat collar.
My improved protector is for use, particularly, as a protection against the inclemency of the weather and the collar of the coat is preferably first turned up thus exposing the buttons upon its under side. The protector is then buttoned in place and the depending portion is is stuffed into the neck opening, and buttoned as usual thus holding the protector in place.
The object of the loop a is to afford a means for at taching the protector when not in use to one of the usual buttons of the coat or a specially provided button n. i
The shape of the improved device'may be as shown, or varied if desired, without departing from the spirit of my invention.
What I claim is as follows:-
1. The combination with a coat and collar thereof having a pair of fastening devices thereon, the ends of the said collar having a space therebetwee'n, of a throat protector disconnected from the coat when not in use and consisting of a strip adapted to cover the front portion only of the neck and having fastening devices whereby the upper end of the protector is fastened to the collar, and a portion depending from the strip, such protector being narrow at its middle and widened towards its lower end and adapted to be stuffed through the said space between the ends of the collar.
2. The combination with a coat and collar thereof having a pair of fastening devices thereon, the ends of the said collar having a space there'oetween, of a throat protector disconnected from the coat when not in use and consisting of a strip c adapted to cover the front portion only of the neck and having fastening devices whereby the upper end of the protector is fastened to the collar, and a portion In depending from the strip, such protector being narrow at its middle and widened towards its lower end and adapted to be stuffed through the said space be tween the ends of the collar, and a loop upon the said lower end of the protector.
In testimony whereof, I have signed my name to this specification, in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
CHARLES EDWARD WINKS.
Witnesses i ALEXANDER KIPPEN Cs'rns, HUGH CAMPBELL.
