SPUTUM-CU? I Specification of Letters Patent.
Eatented Oct. 29, 1907'.
Applieatiti iled October 16, 1906. Serial No. 339253.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHRIs'rIAX Mnmneiin, a citizen ot the United States, and a rendent ot' Jersey tfity, Hudson county New Jersey, have invented eert-ain new and uset'ul lmprovenninley in Sputuin-tups. ot' whit-li the following' is a speeiliealion.
My invention relates lo boxes mcups providt d lor receiving the sputum ot' eonsunipl'ives and other sick persons and has for its objoet to provide a simple and i l0 Cheap cup oi this Qharaeter which will be normally covered with a lid.
The invention will be lully dtrseiibed hereinal'trn. and the features ol novelt y pointrd out in the appent'lod claims.
Reference to he had to the accompanying' drawings, in which Figure l. is a perspeetive vien' of a sputum box or cup embodying my invention; Fig. 2 is a vertical seetion thereof; Fig. 3 shows the borY insQrted in a holder; 2O Fig. 4 is a top View ot' the box; and Fig. 5 is a partial vertical section showing another torni of 1ny invention. The boX body A is generally inade ol paper or similar materials, and its shape is that oi a rectangular prism. The back A. is extended to l'orm an attaching portion or the lid B. ln the form illust-rated by Figs. l. to t.,
the extension A2 is made as a sheath A3 into which the rear edge of the lid B is fitted. Preferably the lid is both wider and longer than the body A, and so arranged as to project beyond ther body on all sides, see Fig. 4. This lid is made of stiffer material than the body, and
is adapted to close automatically by the` Weight of its l'ronl portion, the rear portion, which pro; jects beyond the boek A, forming a handle for the Convenient opening' ot the lid. The extension A2 lorins n hinge eonneet'ingr the lid l), with the. box body A. The lid is gemir-ed by paste, by means ol` rivets B, or by other suitable means. i
For convenience the box may be held during use in a holder t) made ol' inet-al or other resistant material, see Fig. 5%. This holder may be provided with a handle W. When theI box A is full, or when it is desired to examine the sputum, the box is removed from the holder ('l and another box inserted in its place.
The construction shown in Fig. 5 has a lid B 'formed integral with the hinge and the box. body A2. A strip D may be secured to the top ot' the lid to stiften the lid and to facilitate its automatic Closing When released.
The improved sputum receptacle is easily handled, closes automatically when left'. to iselt', and being made et Combustible material, is readily destroyed when desired.
I claim:
