OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
RECEPTACLE FOR CARBON 0R OTHER THIN PAPER. l i
Specification of Letters Patent.
l Patented Aug. 26,1913.
Application led April 15, 1912. Serial N o. 690,926.
To all whom/15 may concern.'
Be it known that I, ABRAHAM' SILVER- TRUST, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of Chicago, county of Cook, and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Receptacles for Carbon or other Thin Paper, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to receptacles for carbon orother thin paper, and hasfor its object the production of a receptacle of this character which will be so constructed that the contents thereof may be removed with the greatest ease and expedition.
A further object is the production'of a receptacle, as mentioned, which will be of durable and economical construction and efficient in use.
Other objects will appear hereinafter.
W'ith these objects in view, my invention consists in the combinations and arrangements of parts hereinafter described and claimed. A
My invention will be more readily understood by reference to the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification, and in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view of a receptacle embodying my invention, and Fig. 2 is a vertical longitudinal section of the receptacle, showing the contents thereof slightly projecting therefrom.
The preferred form of construction, as illustrated in the. drawing, comprises a box 1 which is comparatively flat or shallow and rectangular in outline. The upper side of the box l at one end is provided with an opening 2 which is provided with a cover 3 which is hinged at 4, said cover being adapted to normally remain in closed position. The lateral edges of the cover 3 are provided with depending iianges 5 which engage at opposite sides of the side walls of the box, serving to exclude dust from the interior of the box.
Arranged within the box l is a flexible tape the end 6 of which is anchored in the bottom ofthe box, as clearly shown in Fig. 2, intermediate the extremities of said bottom. The opposite end 7 of said tape projects exteriorly through a slit 8 formed in the cover 3 adjacent the front end thereof, so as to form a bifrht 9 in said tape at the rearward end of the box, the arrangement being such that said bight will be moved forwardly in the box by pulling upon the end 7 of the tape.
Arranged within the box is a holder for the carbon, or other thin paper, for the rcception of which the box is designed. This holder comprises a cover 10 formed of a piece of cardboard or other rigid material which is bent upon itself in book form, the sheets 11 of the carbon, or other thin paper, being positioned between the sides of said cover, as clearly shown in Fig. 2, The b'ight 9 of the tape passes around the rearward end of the holder, and so that, when the end 7 of saidtapeis pulled outwardly, said holder will be slid forwardly in the box. An inclined bottom 12 is provided in the box at the opening 2 for guiding the forward end of the holder through said opening when said holder is slid forwardly by the tape, as just described. When the forward end of the holder projects from the mouth of the box, the sheets ll, it willbe understood, are readily accessible for removal from the holder. Vith this arrangement then, when it is desired to'remove sheets from the package, it is only required to pull the end 7 of the tape, this act effecting the sliding of the sheet holder forwardly in the box to project the forward end thereof from the box, as just described. By passing the end 7 of the tape through a slit provided adjacent t-he forward end of the cover, when said tape end is pulled, as just mentioned, to move the sheet holder forwardly, the end of the cover will be simultaneously raised so as to permit of the passage of the forward end of the sheet holder through the opening 2. When it is desired ing from the spirit of the invention. I,
therefore, do not Wish to be limited to the exact details of construction set forth, but desire to avail myself of such variations and modifications as come within the scope of the appended claim.
Having described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
A receptacle of the class describedv comprising a flat rectangular boX having an opening in its upper side at the front end thereof, a hinged cover for said opening adapted to swing upwardly and provided with an aperture adjacent its outer end, the bottom of said receptacle curving upwardly at the forward end to the front edge of said opening, a holder slidably mounted in said box, and a flexible tape having one end an- Lof/Leve chored to the bottom of said box and having its opposite endpassing freely through said aperture in said cover, there being a bight formed in said tape in the rear end of said box around the adjacent endof said holder, whereby a pull on the outer end of said tape will swing said cover to open position and project the forward end of said holder and its contents beyond the forward end of the receptacle, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
ABRAHAM SILVERTRUST.
