Specification of Letters Patent.

Patented Oct. 8, 1907.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I; HERMAN WEISS, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of New York, borough of Manhattan, in the county and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Suspender-Ends, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

The purpose of the invention is to provide a suspender end with an auxiliary supporting strap of the same material as the end, and which has swinging connection therewith, said auxiliary strap being adapted to carry a supporting clasp for attachment to an undergarment.

It is also a purpose of the invention to provide an integral projecting car from one leg of a suspender end, in which said strap has swinging movement, whereby not only to so direct the strap that its clasp is always held in position for application, but also to prevent the strap drawing unduly upon a garment with which it is connected, and to so cut the blanks, for the suspender ends that the material used in the construction of the auxiliary supporting straps constitutes the connecting mediums for the said ends.

The invention consists in the novel construction and combination of the several parts as will be hereinafter fully set forth and pointed out in the claims.

Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures Figure 1 is a plan view of a portion of the blank showing two suspender ends flat and connected; Fig. 2 is a plan view of a suspender end laid flat, its end portions being finished, and the finished auxiliary strap connected therewith; and Fig. 3 is a front elevation of a completed suspender end and a completed auxiliary strap applied thereto.

The blank A shown in Fig. 1, may include any desired number of suspender ends 10, two only being shown in the drawings. These suspender ends 10 are connected by rectangular sections 11, and these rectangular sections when separated from the suspender ends constitute the auxiliary supporting straps B employed. The suspender ends are provided with the usual button-holes 12 at their ends, and each suspender end 10 at its inner side edge adjacent to preferably its right hand end, is provided with a tab or ear 13, integral with the body of the suspender end, as is clearly shown in Figs. 1 and 2, and each tab or car 13 is provided with a diagonal cut or slot 14, the slot extending downward and outward when the suspender end is in position on the garment, as is clearly shown in Fig. 3.

The tabs 13 may be stitched around their margins and the straps B may likewise be stitched at their marginal edges, but the stitching may be omitted. The straps B are passed through the slots or cuts 14, having sliding movement therein, and the said straps are adjusted so as to bring their ends in alinement, or practically so, as is illustrated in Fig. 2, and the ends of a strap B are secured in any approved manner to any desired type of clasp or clip 17 The suspender ends are folded upon themselves between their ends and are stitched in the customary manner to form the usual cylindrical body that passes through the suspending member of the suspender, and the terminals 16 of the suspender ends are left flat, as is customary, and is shown in the said Fig. 3.

When an auxiliary supporting strap 13 is employed of the type described, it is practically free from the body portion of a suspender end, and always holds the clasp or clip carried thereby in position for expeditious and convenient engagement with a garment. Furthermore, since the auxiliary supporting strap B has swinging movement in the tab or car 13, it does not interfere with the movement of the body and consequently renders the suspender more comfortable than when an equivalent for the said supporting strap is rigidly and unmovably attached to the suspender end. 7

Having thus described my invention, 1 claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent,

1. As an improved article of manufacture, a suspender end having a slotted tab extending from its inner face being integral therewith, a strap passed through the slot of the tab, and a clasp carried by the strap.

2. As an improved article of manufacture, a suspender end having a tab integral therewith and extending from the inner side of its body portion adjacent to one of its terminals, the said tab being provided with a diagonal slot and an auxiliary supporting strap loosely passed through the slot in the said tab, and a clasp at the lower end of the said strap.
