JOHN K. ALLEN, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
TOY.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. 1, 1907.
Application filed June 14, 1907. Serial No. 379,001.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, JOHN K. ALLEN, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the borough of the Bronx, in the city of New York in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Toys, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements 1n toys, and the object of my device is to provide a new and useful toy for shooting marbles and similar projectiles.
My improved device is illustrated in the accompanying drawings in which Figure 1 is a view of the device in section. Fig. 2 is an optional form of the device. Fig. 3 is a cross section of the spring on the line :0 x in Fig. 4. Fig. 4 is a longitudinal section of one leaf of the spring.
Similar letters refer to similar parts throughout the several views.
a and b are two leaves of a spring folded'over at 0, each leaf being longitudinally bent or dished to form a guide for the projectile and having depressions or sockets a and b respectively, formed therein near their outer extremities. The lower leaf b is provided with a cut out section 6 to form a seat for the trigger d. The trigger d is provided with a bent overhead section d and a downwardly extending finger hold. A clamp f is provided on the leaves a and b to regulate the tension. The springs may be inclosed within a casing g to simulate a pistol in appearance. When so used I prefer to secure the spring to the casing by a bolt or screw h. An optional form of my device is shown in Fig. 2 in which thecase is omitted, and the rear end of the spring is spread out to form a handle i.
In the drawings the leaves a and b of the spring are shown in their normal position. When it is desired to use the device the leaves a and b are spread apart by moving the finger hold ,of the trigger forward, when the upper bent over portion d of the trigger will act as a lever and spread the leaves a and b apart, in which position the marble or other projectile m is inserted between the leaves in the sockets a and b and there retained. When the projectile is so held in the device the leaves a and b will be spread apart as shown by the dotted lines k and Z in Fig. 1. The projectile is ejected from the device by pressure applied to the finger hold d, which will cause the bent overhead cl to force the marble or projectile m out of the sockets a and b when the tension of the springs a and b will forcibly propel the projectile from the device.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim 1. In a device of the character described, the combination with two spring leaves of a lever fulcrumed upon one of the leaves, and having one end projecting below the said leaf and an upper end section between the said,
leaves, whereby the leaves may be held apart, substantially as shown and described.
2. In a device of the character described, the combination With two spring leaves of a lever seated in an aperture in one of the leaves, and having an end section extending between the leaves to hold them apart, and an end section extending below the same, substantially as shown and described.
Signed at the city of New York, in the county of New York and State of New York this 31st day of May A. D. 1907.
JOHN K. ALLEN.
