Description

C. F. HENDERSON.
TOY GUN.
APPLICATION FILED APR. 24. 1916.

CHARLES F. HENDERSON, F IVIADISONVILLE, OHIO, ASSIGNOR TO THE KEIVIIPER- THOMAS COMPANY, OF NORWOOID, OHIO, A CORPORATION .OF NEW JERSEY.
.r oY GUN.
Application filed April 24.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, CHARLES F. HENDER- soN, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Madisonville, in the county of Hamilton and State of Ohio, have invented certain, new and useful Improvements in Toy Guns, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, forming part of this specification.
My invention relates to cardboard novelties, particularly and more generally to toy articles made of any cheap material which can be manufactured cheaply out of fiberboard, cardboard, wood or the like. It is my object to form a toy gun out of such material which will operate to shoot disks or the like by means of an elastic band, and to form such gun out of the smallest number of parts so as to be as cheap as possible.
These objects I accomplish by that certain construction and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter specifically pointed out and claimed.
In the drawing,
Figure 1 is a side elevation of the device, with one of the cover boards removed to show the internal structure.
Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the device complete.
Fig. 3 is a front elevation of the same to illustrate the width thereof.
The two blanks 1 and 2 are provided, cut
to the shape of a piston, having an open space at 3 for a trigger. These blanks, preferably formed of cardboard or cheap fiber stock are to be printed up as a pistol with barrel, stock and such like parts suitably indioated.
These two blanks are adapted to be glued over a filler blank-4, which is cut likewise to the shape of a pistol soas to form a substantial back for the two outer pieces. This inner blank or filler blank has at its upper end a cut-out portion 5 which slopes rearwardly and terminates in a curve at 6. This conformation is for the purpose of retaining a disk to be shot by the toy, but some other conformation would be adapted for other forms of projectile. L
The filler blank is also cut away around the trigger opening and it has also a cutout portion for the trigger. This cut-out has a base 7 upon which the trigger blank slides, a rear wall 8 which has a vertical specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 24, 1191?. 1916. Serial No. 93,040.
The trigger blank 10 is out to fit the out out in the filler blank so that it slides onthe base and top walls of said cut-out. This trigger blank is not so wide as the cut-out in the filler blank so as to allow for a sliding of the trigger. The upper end of the trigger slopes away at 11, and has also a straight base 12 at this point which slides on a horizontally extending portion 9 of the rear wall 8 of the cut-out portion.
portion and a rearwardly sloping portion,
The two outer blanks are cut ofi vertically at the upper rear end where the opening of the filler blank leaves a slot between them, thereby forming a shoulder 112. A rubber.
band 13 is inserted in a slot '14 cut in the front portion of the device, and is set over this shoulder. pulled by the finger in the opening 3, the rear end of the trigger will be pushed out Thus when the trigger is' between the shoulders in the outer blanks,
thereby displacing the hand because of its sloping edge 11. v
A disk 15 is set in the slot formed by the upper cut-out of the filler blank, and the releasing of the band causes it to snap the disk out of the slot and cause it to pass through the air a considerable distance.
It is evident that the parts of this toy are four in number, to wit: the two outer blanks, the-filler blank and the trigger blank. Any
rubber band of suilicient elasticity maybe used with the gun, and the whole forms an attractive but very inexpensive novelty. The disks may be printed with advertising matter as may the outer blanks of the gun.
It is obvious that many otherconformations could be applied to the outer members of this device without departing from the spirit of my invention, and I do, not wish to be confined to any one form of my invention in the claims-that follow unless they are clearly so confined in their form of expression. I also wish to include within the scope of my invention asexpressed 1n the claims all those obvious modifications necessary to adapt it to analogous uses which are not at this time apparent to me.
Having thus described my invention, What I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is v 1. In a device of the character described, spaced apart members having a filler member between them, a trigger member guided and slidable Within said filler member, and having two protruding ends, a shoulder on the spaced apart members adapted to hold an elastic member, one of said trigger ends adapted to pass by the shoulder to release the elastic member, and the other protruding end adapted to be pressed to cause the releasing movement. 7
2. In a toy gun, outer blanks shaped like a gun, and a filler member between them, said members having a trigger opening, a
- trigger blank,
cut-out portion adapted to slidably retain the trigger blank, a shoulder formed on the outer members to retain one end of anelastic, said cut-out portion opening into the trigger opening and whereby the trigger blank may be pulled by the finger to release the elastic from the shoulder.
3. In a toy gun, means plement to be shot, means elastic band stretched around the position of the implement, said band to shoot the implement, said means comprising two outer blanks, an inner blank, a trigger blank, and the inner blank being cut out to slidably retain the trigger blank and to form the holding means for the implement.
