Description

(No Model. 3
:R. N. STOCKTON. TOY MARBLE SHOOTER.
,Patentd Mar. 20
N. PETERS. PholoLnhngnpller. Wmhinglcn. D. C.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFI E.
ONE-HALF TO WILLIAM F. ORAMER, OF SAME PLACE.
TOY MARBLE-SHOOTER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 379.913. dated March 20, 1888.
Application filed January 19,1888. Serial No. 261,215. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern: Be it known that I, ROBERT N. STOCKTON,
a citizen of the United States, residing in the city and county of Philadelphia, State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Toy Marble or Ball Shooters, which improvement is fully set forth in the following specification and accompanying drawlngs.
My invention consists of a toy marble or ball shooter of novel, simple, and inexpensive construction, as will be hereinafter fully set forth.
Figure 1 represents a side elevation of a toy marble or ball shooter embodying my invention. Fig. 2 represents a top or plan view thereof. Fig. 3 represents an end view thereof Fig. 4 represents a section on line a; m, Fig. 1.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the several figures.
Referring to the drawings, A represents the handle or stock of a marble or ball shooter, the same being formed of metal or other suitable material of proper shape, and having secured to it two jaws, B, which are formed of spring metal or other material, and project forward from said, handle and receive be tween them the upper end of the trigger O, which is pivoted to said handle. The jaws B are recessed on their inner faces near thefront ends, forming concavities 1,and bent outwardly on the extreme ends, forming flaring lips 2.
A marble is placed against the flaring lips 2 and pushed inwardly, the jawsthen yielding and opening until the marble drops into the concavities 1, when the jaws close against the marble and retain the same. The trigger is now operated so as to press against the back of the marble and force or start it from its seat, and the jaws are opened by the advancing marble. When the marble leaves the front walls of the concavities 1, the flaring lips 2, in their efforts to approach each other, exert a forward pressure on the rear portion of the marble, so that motion is imparted to the ball and the sameis rapidly impelled from the jaws.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. A toy pistol or shooter consisting of a handle, two spring-jaws, each of which is connected at one end to said handle, and a trig- ROBERT N. STOCKTON, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA, ASSIGNOR OF ger pivoted to said handle and having its upper end between said jaws, said parts be:
ing combined substantially as described.
2. The handle A,incombination with springjaws having concavities on their inner faces adapted to retain the projectile therein, and'a trigger pivoted to the handle and having ,its upper end working between said jaws, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
3. A marble or ball shooter consisting of a handle, a trigger, and spring-jaws, the latter projecting forwardly from the handle and having flaring lips on their ends and concavities on their inner faces near said ends, the parts being combined and operating substantially as described.
4. A toy pistol or shooter consisting of a handle, two spring-jaws connected to said handle, each of said jaws having a concavity on its inner face adapted to retain the projectile in said pistol, and an outer flaring lip, and a trigger pivoted to said handle having its upper end between said jaws and adapted to bear against the projectile, said parts being combined substantially as described.
5. A toy pistol consisting of a band1e,springjaws directly attached to said handle and normally adapted to retain a projectile between the same, and mechanism, substantially as described, attached to the handle and adapted to bear on said projectile for removing the ROBERT STOCKTON.
