RAZOR.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 23, 1907.
Application filed March 29, 1906. Serial No. 308,718.
' d To all whom it may concem:

- and Fig. 4 is a perspective view of 'one of the bearing Be it known that I, OSCAR A. R. M. SCHMIDT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Louisville, in the.
county of Jefferson and State of Kentucky, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Razors; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to improvements in razors and the like, and more particularly to the handles therefor, and the pivotal connections between the handles and the blades. The object of the invention is to improve. and simph'iy the construction and operation of devices of this same more durable A further object is to provide a pivotal connection for devices of this character, which may be quickly adjusted and tightened.
With the above and other objects in view, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts, as will be hereinafter more fully described, and particularlypointed out in the appended claims. y
In the accompanying drawings,Figure 1 is a side elevation of my improved razor, with the blade in an open position; Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view through the same, taken on the plane indicated by the line 22 of Fig. 1; Fig. 3 is a transverse sectional view, taken on the plane indicated by the'line 33 of Fig. 1;
blocks for the pivot screw.
Referring to the drawings by numeral, 1 denotes a razor blade, of any desired form and construction, and
2 denotes my improved handle for the same, which has at one of its ends my improved pivotal connection 3. The handle 2 is preferably, and as shown, formed from a single strip of aluminium or other suitable metal, by
to receive similarly-shaped bearing blocks 7, through which a pivot screw 8 passes, for the purpose of pivotally mounting the blade 1 between said side pieces. These blocks or bearings 7 have'their sides-tapered or ,beveled, as shown in Fig.'4,- and in their outer or larger ends are formed countersinks 9 which are concentric with the openings through which the pivot screw 8 passes. The latter has a cone-shaped head 10 at one end, to seat'in one of the countersinks 9, and its other screw-threaded end is adapted to screw into a coneshaped nut 11 seated in the countersink 9 of the other block or bearing 7, as clearly shown in Fig. 3. It will desired, and removed when it is desired to replace it by another blade or when it is desired to sharpen or repair it. I
From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, the construction and operation of the invention will be readily understood the advantages of this invention, as definedby the appended claims.
' Havingthus describedmy invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters-Patent is:
The herein described razor or, the like, comprisingthe integral, U-shaped handle having the parallel arms provided near their disconnected ends with inwardly tapered openings, the'blade having the shank between the discoir nected ends of the handle arms, the inwardly-tapered blocks in the openings of the said arms, one of said blocks having an inwardlytapered countersink, the pivot screw passed through and secured in the said blocks'and also passed through the shank of the blade, and the inwardly.-
, out departing from the principle orsacrificing any of tapered nut on said screw in the said countersink of one of said blocks, substantially as specified.
In testimony whereof I have hei'eunto set my hand in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
OSCAR A. R. M. SCHMIDT. Witnesses:
