POCKET-KNIFE.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 342.128, dated May 18, 1886,

To all whom it Many concern.-

Be it known that I, J AMEs MoNRon PARKER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Turnersburg, in the county of Iredell and State of North Carolina, have inventeda new and useful Improvement in Pocket-Knives, of which the followingis a specification, reference be ing had to the accompanying drawings.

My invention relates to an improvement in pocket-knives; and it consists in the peculiar construction and combination of parts, that will be more fully set forth hereinafter, and particularly pointed out in the claims.

In the drawings, Figure 1 is a side elevation of my invention with the blades open in different positions. Fig. 2 is a similar view of the same with the blades closed. Fig. 3 is a top plan view. Fig. 4 is a transverse section.

A represents a pocket-knife comprising the usual handle, B, the blades and D, and the springs E, for retaining the blades in position when opened or closed. The central plate, F, which separates the blades, has its ends extended beyond the ends of the handle of the knife, and one of the said ends is formed into a screw-driver, G, and the other forms a nutwrench, H. This wrench H is bifurcated to form the arms h, which are provided with diagonally-arranged series of notches h, which adapt the wrench to nuts of different sizes. The blade 0 is of the usual construction, and

the blade D has its inner end formed into a screw-plate provided with a series of openings, 1), of varying sizes to fit the varying sizes of screws, and the outer end of the said blade forms an aw] or sharpened point, which may be used as a bodkin. This construction of the knife forms a combination tool of great utility to mechanics and others, as it is always on hand, and thus not only saves the expense of 0 a number of tools, but also the time usually spent in hunting for them when needed.

Having thus described my invention, I

1. A pocket-knife having the central plate, F, provided with extended ends, that project beyond the ends of the handle, the said ends being formed into different tools, substantially as described.

2. A pocket-knife having the central plate, F, provided with the projecting ends, that extend beyond the ends of the handle, one of the said ends being formed into a screw-driver, E, and the other formed into a nut-wrench, H, substantially as described.
