IMPROVE!) RAILWAY-RAIL CHAIR.

To'all whom it may concern:

Be itl-known that I, D.D. BIGELOW, of White House,

in the county ofI Hunterdon, and in the State of New 4Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Railroad-hairs';''and d hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the let-ters of reference'marked thereon.

The nature of my invention consists in so constructing a chair of one piece of metal, that it will form a base for the ends of the rails, and with side-braces on each side of the rail, of one piece of metal, and securing the same and the rails by spikes, which pass at the sides ofthe side-braces, grasp the web ofthe rail, and

pass through openingsin thebody of the chair.

f In order to enable others skilled in the art to make 'and use Iny invention, I will new proceed to describe spike-holes b b, thegnard c, lips d d, and holes e e, for the spikes or bolts to fasten the chair to the rails. It will be seen that this plate, when so cut, and the guards and lips turned or bent up, is still in one piece, andnot eut so as to be disconnected at any place. l

The guards and lips,'when turned up, are bent so as to 'correspond with the 'shape of the rails BB, andmay be secured by bolts passing through the holes e e. These bolts, when used, prevent the rails from running on adouble track, orany side motion, and do not-sus4 tain anyweight, as some other chairs now in use. This chair is so formed as to sustain the weight independently of the bolts. y

What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is l l The chair herein' deserlbed, made of a dat piece of metal, with side-braces c c, and with openings b b, so that the rails are secured by the spikes, which pass .through -these openings, and' the base, A, of the chair,

and grasp the web of the rails, all substantially as set forth.
