M. BUSGH.
BAIL 0mm AND FASTENING.
APPLICATION FILED JUNE 22, 1914. 1,132,827, Patented Mar. 23, 1915.
MARY BUSCH, OF McARTI-IUR, NORTH DAKOTA.
RAIL CHAIR AND FASTENING.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Mar. 23, 1915.
Application filed June 22, 1914. Serial No. 846,508.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MARY Boson, a citizen of the United States, residing at McArthur, in the county of Pembina and State of North Dakota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Rail Chairs and Fastenings, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in rail chairs and fasteners and one object of the invention is the provision of means capable of use in connection with wood, metal or composition ties, which will form a perfect chair or support for the rail and provide a reliable fastening means.
Another object of my invention is the provision of means which will properly sup- 7 port and fasten the rails with reference to the tie, which can be easily applied and removed, which will allow for the proper eX- pansion and contraction, which will be reliable and eflicient in every particular and capable of production at a low price.
With these objects in view, my invention consists of a rail chair and fastening embodying novel features of construction and combination of parts for service, substantially as shown, described and particularly pointed out in the claim.
Figure 1 represents a plan view of a portion of a rail and tie equipped with my chair and fastener. Fig. 2 represents a side elevation thereof. Fig. 3 represents a central sectional view, and Fig. 4 represents a perspective view of one of the chairs or supports detached.
The tie A, may be made of wood, metal, cement or of any other construction, and is provided at each end with the openings or passages B, in which fit the depending sleeves C, which are split to form the pair of arms D, which when the sleeves are in position are bent back to form the retaining hooks E, the said sleeves being formed with and depending from the plates forming the chairs or supports F. These chairs or supports are thus provided with the depending sleeves, which fit in the openings B, and are secured in place by the hooks E, said sleeves being provided with threaded portions G, which receive the bolt H, hav-- ing the angular head H, and the bolt J, having the kerfed or slotted head J, said heads of the bolts bearing upon the foot K, of the rail, and securing the rail in position, as will be readily understood.
It is evident that I provide a chair and fastening which canbe easily applied to the tie, and which cannot possibly become detached, but which can be removed when desired, and also that a perfect support and fastening is provided. If desired, a cushion of suitable material L, may be placed between the chair and tie, which would be desirable where a metal tie or a tie of hard substance is used, as this would give the proper yielding to the chair. be apparent that the chair and fastening are of extremely simple, durable and inexpensive construction, insuring a practical improvement in this class of inventions.
I claim:
In combination with the rails and tie, of chairs resting upon the tie and supporting the rails, sleeves depending from the chairs and each formed with a slit to provide portions for engaging the tie, said sleeves having their upper portion threaded, and fastening bolts screwed into said sleeves and having heads engaging the foot of the rails.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
V MARY BUSCH.
