Be it known that. I, Louis VAN GALE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Newark, in the count-y of Essex and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Toilet Articles, and l do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact deseription of the invention, sui-h as will enable others skilled in the art to` which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being hadto the accompanying drawings, and to letters of reference marked thereon, whieh form a part of this specification.

The present invention has reference, generally, to improvements in toilet articles, such as hand glasses, mirrors, hair-brushes, and the like, which are provided with ornamental frames with an extension serving as a handle.

The present invention has for its principal object to provide a neat and simply oonstrueted frame and handle therefor eomprising several separably-oonnected parts of simple construction and means Vfor detachably securing within the frame a glass, mirror, hair-brush or the like. Y

Afurther object of this invention is to provide a handglass, mirror, hair-brush or the like, which is simply and durably constructed of few parts and which when. Complete may be used as an advertising novelty.

Other objeets of this invention not at tl'is time more particularly mentioned will be clearly evident from the following detailed description of the same.

The invention consists, primarily, in the novel frame and handle for toilet articles,-

such as hand-glasses, mirrors, brushes, or the like, provided with an open-hack in whiffh may be arranged or inserted an advertisement, picture, medallion, photograph, or the like,` and furthermore, the said frame is provided with a receiving-opening in which may be detachably arranged a glass, mirror, hairbrush, or the like, held in plaee by frietional engagement or contact, as will hereinafter be described; and, furthermore, this invention consists in the novel arrangements and oombinations of the various devices and parts, as Well as in the details of the construction of the same, all of which will be more 'fully set forth in the following specification and then 'finally embodied in the clauses of the claims, which are appended to this specification and which form an essential part thereof.

Referring now to the several figures of the drawings, the reference-character 1 indicates the complete article. The combined frame and handle made according to the principles of my present invention comprises a main body-portion 2 of any desirable ornamental configuration, Athe said main body-portion 2 being provided with an open space or eut away-portion 3 and the said main bod f-portion 2 being further'provided with an elongated or handle-extension 4, forming an integral part of the said main body-portion 2. Extending around the periphery of the main body-portion 2 and its elongated or handle extension 4 is a bead or channeled portion 5, which terminates in a marginal extension 6. To complete the handle for the frame there is provided a handle-'plate or portion 7 of any desirable ornamental configuration, the

said handle-plate or portion 7 being provided with a marginal extension 8 around its periphery. The said extension S of the handle plate or portion 7 is adapted to be fitted within the elongated or handle-extension 4 of the main body-portion 2 until the marginal edge of the said extension S rests within and upon the bead or channeled portion 5, wherefrom the extension 6 of the said main-body-portion 2 is eurled around and over the edge of the said handle-plate or portion 7 to provide a holding means Qfor securing the said handle-plate or portion 7 to the elongated or handle-extension 4 of the mainbody-portion 2 of the frame. To complete the said vframe the extension 6 is curled to forni an annular bead or rim l() around the periphery of the niain-body-portion 2, and

which provides a receiving socket or opening in which may be inserted a glass, mirror, brush or the like.

Inserted or iitted within the back of the main-body-portion 2 of the frame may be a backing 11, such as an advertising card, picture, medallion or photograph, which Will appear through the open space or cut-awayportion 3 in the said main-body-portion 2 of the frame in a manner clearly evident from an inspection of the drawings.

Secured within the frame previously described is an element 12, as a glass, or mirror, which isl provided with a marginal ring or binding 13 of annular construction, the said marginal ring or binding 13 being provided with any convenient f number of tongues 15 turned around the element 12 toA secure the said marginal ring or binding 13 thereto. rIhe marginal ring or binding 13 is further provided with any convenient number of raised or pressed out portions or lugs 15, as illustrated more particularly in Fig. 4 of the drawings, these raised or pressed-out portions or lugs 15 acting as a retaining or holding means for securing the element 12 within the main-body-portion 2 of the frame by being pressed or snapped under the bead or rim 10 around the periphery of the main-body-portion 2 of the frame, whereby by irictional engagement, said element 12 is held in place, as will be clearly evident'from an inspection of Figs. 3 and 4 of the drawings. v

Referring now to Fig. 5 of the drawings, it will be noticed, that in place of a glass, mirror or the like, there has been substituted in the frame', another element 16, such as a brush. This brush isv provided with a marginal ring or binding 17, the same being provided with any convenient num-l ber of tongues 18 turned around the brushbase 19 to secure the said marginal ring or binding 17 thereto. The marginal ring or binding 17 is further provided with any convenient number of raised or pressed-out portions or lugs 20, which act as a retainingA or holding means for securing the brush 16 within the main body-portion 2 of the frame by being pressed or snapped under the bead or rim 10 around the periphery of the said main-bodyportion 2 of the frame.

It will -be clearly understood from the foregoing description of the present invention, that I have provided a simple, durable and cheap toilet article, which may be used as an artistic adjunct of the dressing table, 'or may be manufactured in different sizes, as an advertising novelty.

I claim 1. In a toilet article, a frame comprising a main body-portion provided with an elongated or handle-extension and a handle-plate or portion secured thereto, an annular marginal extension around the periphery of the said main body-portion, and a rim or bead upon said annular marginal extension adapted to provide a receiving socket or opening, an element provided with a marginal ring or binding adapted to be inserted in said receiving socket or opening, means upon said marginal ring or binding adapted to secure the said marginal ring or binding upon said element, consisting of holding lugs or tongues turned or curled down from the marginal edge of the said marginal ring or binding, and means upon the said marginal ring or binding adapted to engage with the rim or bead upon the said main body-portion of the frame, said means consisting of raised or pressed-out portions or lugs adapted to be pressed or snapped under the rim or bead upon the main bodyportion of the frame, substantially as and for the purposes set forth.

2. In a toilet article, a frame comprising a main bodyportion provided with an elongated or handle-extension and a handle-plate or portion secured thereto, an annular marginal extension around the periphery of the said main body-portion, and a rim or bead upon said annular marginal extension adapted to provide a receiving socket or opening, an element provided with a marginal ring or binding adapted to be inserted in said receiving socket or opening, means upon said marginal ring or binding adapted to secure the said marginal ring or binding upon said element, consisting of holding lugs or tongues turned or curled down from the marginal edge or the said marginal ring or binding, and means upon the said marginal ring or binding adapted to engage with the rim or bead upon the said main-body-portion of the frame, said means consisting of raised or pressed-out portions or lugs adapted to be pressed or snapped under the rim or bead upon the main body portion of the frame, and said main body-portion being formed with an open space or cutaway portion, adapted to disclose a backing substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
