UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HENRY H. FAOK, OF MUSOATINE, IOWA, ASSIGNOR TO AUTOMATIO BUTTON COMPANY, O MUSOATINE, IOWA, A CORPORATION OF IOWA.
" DISPLAY-STAND.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Iratented May 28, 1907.
Application filed August 13, 1906. Serial No. 330,390.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY H. FAOK, a citizen of the United. States, residing at Muscatine, in the county of Muscatine and State of Iowa, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Display-Stands, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to that class of devices which are used for supporting and displaying various articles of merchandise, and more particularly a holding and display device for buttons on cards.
One object of the invention is to provide a stand which shall be of simple construction and yet strong and rigid.
A further object is to produce a display stand which may be easily handled and carried from place to place, and in which the firticles carried thereby are readily accessi Further objects and advantages will be apparent from the following description when read in conjunction with the annexed draw ings, in which corresponding reference characters refer to like parts, and in which,
Figure 1 is a top plan view of my improved device. Fig. 2 is a vertical section on the line 11 Fig. 1, and, Fig. 3 is a partial perspective of the same.
Referring more specifically to the drawings. A designates the base to which is detachably secured the stem B, which preferably has a screw threaded connection with the base, although any convenient means may be employed, for attaching the same to the base. Near the top of the stem is a shoulder O for a purpose hereinafter to be described.
Mounted to rotate upon the stem B is the supporting rack or stand proper. This stand includes four bracing wires D and E are connecting wires extending between the upper pair of brace wires D and dividing the figure into a plurality of pockets, the bot toms of said pockets being formed by wires F connecting the lower pair of brace wires D. Vertically connecting wires G serve to provide sides for the before mentioned pock ets and give additional rigidity to the frame. Above the pockets just referred to, and in a plane nearer the center of the stand, is another series of pockets formed by wires H which extend across the top of the frame,
vertically downward to the lower pair of wires D, under the inner of said pair and are constitute a hearing which engages the stem B. Wires M connect the pairs of wires Hat their upper outer extremities. opposite points of the upper innermost brace wire D are wire braces N disposed in the same vertical planes as the wires H. The sides and bottoms of the upper set of pockets are formed by vertical and horizontal connecting Wires P.
At the top of the frame and secured to opposite wires H is a plate A provided at its center with an aperture U permitting its engagement with the stem B whereby it may rest upon the before mentioned shoulder C.
It will be seenthat by this construction the plate A insures a positive support for the wire frame by its engagement with the shoulder C while the bearing serves to center said frame on the stem B, and although permitting rotation of the frame. on the stand, yet holds it at all times in a true vertical position.
T is a combined card holder and friction lock consisting of a single piece of spring wire coiled horizontally at its lower end to engage the upwardly protruding end of the stem B and above its shoulder C and the plate A, and coiled vertically at its upper end'to provide a support for a display card. The wire frame having been placed on the stem, the holder is forced 'on above the same and the frictional engagement of the small coil with the stem is sufficient to prevent its accidental removal. The wire frame is thus locked in place on the stem and the larger coil constitutes a holder in which any suitable card may be inserted as described.
It will be apparent that when the articles of merchandise are arranged in the pockets, there will be a lower outer row and an upper inner row, or the effect produced will be that of a pyramid.
The underlying principle of the invention may be embodied in other types of display Connecting The coils .being disposed, one just above the other,
stands such as those of rectangular, or square or othershape.
I claim:
1. A stand of the character described including a wire frame formed to provide a receding series of pockets in combination with means for rotatably supporting said stand including a stem having a shoulder at its upper end, a transverse plate secured to. the frame and provided with an opening to receive said stem and rest upon said shoulder whereby to turn on said stem.
2. A stand of the character described including a wire frame formed to provide a receding series of pockets in combination With means for rotatably supporting said frame including a stem having a shoulder at its up per end, crossed wires at the lower portion of the stand coiled about said stem, and a transverse plate secured to the frame and provided with an opening to receive said stem and restv upon said shoulder whereby to turn on said stem.
3. A stand of the character described including a base, a stem thereon, a wire frame revolubly mounted on said stem, and means for detachably maintaining the frame on the stem including a coiled spring wire friction lock engaging the end of the stem which protrudes above the frame.
4. A stand of the character described including a base, a stem thereon, a wire frame revolubly mounted on said stem, and means for detachably maintaining the frame on the stem including a coiled friction lock engaging the end of the stem which protrudes above the frame, in combination with a display card holder formed with said coiled friction lock.
5. In a stand of the character described, the combination with a stem, of a frame revolubly mounted thereon, a friction lock above said frame including a horizontally coiled,
portion engaging the stem and a vertically coiled portion constituting a support for a display card.
6. In a stand of the character described, the combination with a base, of a stem secured thereto, a wire frame revolubly mounted on said stem separable therefrom in an axial direction, and a frictional locking de vice engaging the stem for maintaining the frame in position against such separation.
7. As an article of manufacture, a display rack for cards of buttons consisting of a wire framework of step formation forming receding series of open-faced pockets, the pockets of each series being arranged in. the same horizontal plane and the bottoms of the poohets of each inner series occupyin a plane substantially that of the tops of the pockets of the outer series immediately adjoining the same whereby the entire face of each pocket is presented to view and the cards therein not obstructed by any of the pockets in advance thereof.
8. A stand of the character described including a wire frame formed to provide a receding series of pockets in combination with means for rotatably supporting said frame including a stem having a shoulder at its upper end, a transverse wire at the lower portion of the stand coiled about said stem, and a transverse plate secured to the frame and provided with an op ening to receive said stem and rest upon said shoulder whereby to turn on said stem.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
