Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Jan. 2.5, 191d.
Application filed August 12, 1909. Serial No. 512,544.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EMIL T. PALMENBERG, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of New York, borough of Manhattan, in the county and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Display-Stand, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The object of the invention is to provide a new and improved display stand for use in stores and other places, and more espe cially designed for displaying belts and like articles to permit convenient selection by a customer as to style and size, the belts or other articles being. securely held in place against abstraction by unauthorized persons, and at the same time to permit a salesman to readily remove any one of the belts selected by a customer. For the purpose mentioned use is made of a revoluble head from which radiate hangers normally closed and adapted to be opened for the removal of a belt or other article, the said head having perma nently marked thereon characters for indicating a common characteristic of the articles displayed on the hanger; for instance, in the case of a belt, the length thereof.
A practical embodiment of the invention is represented in the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the display stand showing one of the belt hangers open for the removal of a belt; Fig. 2 is an enlarged sectional side elevation of the upper end of the stand and the central portion of the revoluble head; Fig. 3 is an enlarged front end view of one of the hangers, parts being in section; Fig. l is a side elevation of the same; Fig. 5 is a plan view of a part of the revoluble head and a number of the hangers; and Fig. (5 is an enlarged sectional side elevation of the same.
On the base A, is secured a post or standard B supporting at its upper end atop piece G, terminating in a pointed pin C engaging a socket 1) formed centrally on the under side of a revoluble head D, carrying at the top a frame F for the reception of a card, ticket, or the like. The head I) is preferably circular and to the rim D of the head are attached radially extending hangers F, for supporting articles to be displayed on the display stand. On the top of the revoluble head D are cast, or otherwise produced,
indicating characters G, one adjacent to each hanger F, to indicate a common characteristic of the article displayed on a hanger. As shown in Figs. 1 and 5, the indicating characters G are represented by numerals which indicate the length of belts Tl supported on the hangers F. That is, the belts, say, of forty-two inches length but which may vary in style, are all supported on the hanger F opposite the numeral 42, while belts of twenty-eight inches length are all displayed 011 the hanger F located opposite the numeral 28.
The hangers F are alike and are constructed as follows: An interiorly threaded socket F is provided with a screw F screwing into a threaded aperture in the rim D of the head D, and on the inner end of the screw F screws a lock nut F to securely hold the screw and socket from unscrewing. The socket F carries an upper supporting mem ber F* and a lower supporting member F, the said members having angular ends F, F and F, F, respectively, of which the inner ends F, F of the members F, F screw respectively into the top and bottom of the threaded socket F. The end F of the lower member F is permanently secured in radial position by a pin or rivet F (see Fig. 6). The outer end F of the upper member F 4 is provided with a depending pin F adapted to engage a recess F in the outer end F of the lower member F so that the two members F F form with the socket F a complete closed loop which may be opened by pressing the members F and F apart to disengage the pin F from the recess F and to then swing the member F sidewise to the right into the open position indicated in Fig. 1. The right-hand side of the end F of the lower member F is provided with an incline F leading to the recess F so that when the member F is swung to the left, from the open position into a closed position, then the pin F travels up the incline F to finally drop into the recess F.
In placing the belts of the same size in position on a correspondingly numbered hanger F, it is necessary for the operator to swing the top member F into open position with a view to allow the operator to engage the buckles H of the belts H with the lower member F, after which the top member F is closed to lock the belts H in position on the hanger and against removal by unauthorized persons. Each of the hangers F is filled with belts of sizes corresponding to the 1 numerals G on the revoluble head D adjacent to the corresponding hanger F. When a customer has selected a belt on any one of the hangers F, then the salesman moves the belt buckles H of the belts in front of the one selected up onto the upper member F and then this upper member F is opened to allow convenient removal of the selected belt from the lower member F After this belt has been removed, the upper member F is returned to closed position, and then the belt buckles H engaging the member F are slipped down the interlocked outer ends F F to finally rest on the lower member F From the foregoing it will be seen that the belts are properly supported on a hanger according to the length indicated by the numeral Gr,and the belts can bereadily examined by a customer, but the belts are held against removal by unauthorized persons, while the selected belt can be readily removed by the salesman whenever it is desired to do so.
, Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
1. A display stand, comprising a revoluble head having indicating characters arranged thereon along the margin, the said head having a depending rim provided With threaded openings each in alinement with an indicating character, sockets provided with screws screwing into the said threaded openings in the rim, and hangers for the goods carried by said sockets, the said hangers each comprising a member fixed at one end to the socket and a member mounted to swing on the socket, and having a projection at its free end adapted to engage a recess in the free end of the fixed member, the fixed member having an inclined surface leading to the said recess.
2. A display stand, comprising a support, a head mounted to revolve on the said support, hangers radiating from the said head, each hanger having a socket fastened to the rim of the said head, a loop member fixed at one end to the said socket, and a loop member mounted to swing on the said socket and having a locking pin at its free end adapted to engage a recess in the free end of the said fixed member, the latter having an incline leading to the said recess for the pin to pass up the incline and enter the said recess.
3. A display stand, comprising a support,
a head mounted to revolve on said support and having a depending rim provided With threaded openings, internally threaded sockets having screws at right angles thereto and screwing into the said openings in the rim of the head, nuts on the inner ends of the screws, and upper and lower supporting members for each socket having angular inner threaded ends screwing respectively into the top and bottom of the socket, means for permanently securing the lower member in position in each socket, the upper member being mounted to turn in said socket, and the outer or free ends of said supporting members being provided respectively with a pin and a recess adapted to engage one the other to form a closed loop.
4. A display stand comprising a snpporting post, a head mounted to revolve on the top of said post and having a depending rim provided with spaced threaded openings, vertically arranged sockets provided with lateral screwsscrewing into said threaded openings in the rim, upper and lower supporting members for each socket having angular inner threaded ends screwing respectively into the top and bottom of the socket, a pin for permanently securing the lower member in position in each socket, the upper member being mounted to turn in said socket, the said upper and lower supporting members having angular outer or free ends adapted to engage one the other to form a closed loop.
5. A display stand comprising a base, a post secured on said base, a circular head mounted to revolve on said post and having a depending rim, hangers radiating from the said head, each hanger having a socket provided with a screw screwing into an opening in said rim, a lower loop member fixed at one end in the bottom of said socket, and an upper loop member mounted to swing in the top of said socket, the said members having angular ends, the upper loop men'iber having a locking pin at its free end adapted to engage a recess in the free end of the fixed member, the said free end of the fixed member being provided at one side with an incline leading to the said recess.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
