PATBNTED APR. 23, 1907.-
UNITED STATES PATENT oFFIoE.
HANNAH J1 811131 OF BILLINGS, MONTANA.
BABY-WAIST.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented April 23, 1907.
Application filed September 4, 1906. Serial No. 333,163.
1'0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HANNAH J. SHARP, a citizen of the United States, residing at Billings, in the county of Yellowstone and State of Montana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Baby-Waists, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in nether garments and it pardegree of growth of the infant.
The invention further aims to provide a nether garment which can be easily and quickly put on and taken off, and in which all positive fastening means are eliminated.
The invention finally aims to rovide a garment of the type set forth whic shall be comfortable and will not bind and which in all other respects will be practical and ethcient in use.
The detailed construction will appear in the course of the following description in which reference is had to the accom anying drawings forming a part of this spec' cation, like numerals designating like parts throughout the several views, wherein,
Figure 1 is a developed plan view of a nether garment constructed in accordance with my invention. Fig. 2- is a plan view of the garment in position for use.
In the practical embodiment of my invention I employ a body portion 1 of suitable conformation and provided with arm holes 2. Mounted on each side of the body portion 1 are laterally extending straps 3, which are connected with said body portion by elastic strips or webs 4. The straps 3 have secured to their extremities strings or ties 5. For the purpose of facilitating the conformation of the waist to the body of the infant upon which it is worn, the body portion 1 is provided on one side thereof, and preferabiy beneath the adjacent arm hole 2- with a substantially vertical slit 6 through which one of the straps 3 is designed to be projected. Depending from the lower edge of the body portion 1 at suitably arranged points are tabs 7 secured to said body portion by elastic strips or webs 8. The tabs 7 are designed to serve as a su port for other nether garments by virtue o fastening cans: of approved form as will be readily understood; The exposed edges of the various elements'o'f the garment are reenforced by braiding 9.
In practical use the garment is worn as shown in Fig. 2. serted through the slit 6 and the other of said straps is brought around upon the outside of the waist and the two straps have fiieir strings 5 tied in back as indicated. In this manner by tightening or loosening the straps 3, the size or span of the body portion 1 can be readily adjusted. The elastic strips or webs 4 an waist from binding and being uncomfortable.
While the elements herein shown and described are well adapted to serve the functions $et forth it is obvious that various minor changes may be made in the proportions, shape and arrangement of the several parts wit out departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as defined in the appended claims.
Having fully described my invention claim:
A garment of the character described comrising a body portion rovided with armholes and with a vertica sli. beneath one of said arm holes, said body portion bein provided on each side thereof with lateral y 6X- tend ng straps united thereto by strips of elastic Iabric.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature n presenceof two w1tnesses.
