UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE,
JOSEPH O. LALONDE, OF MONTREAL, QUEBEC, CANADA, ASSIGNOR OF TWO- TIIIRDS TO VICTOR GUERTIN, OF MONTREAL, CANADA.
MANIFOLD COUNTEB-SALES CHECK-BOOK.
Speeication of Letters Patent.
Patented April 2, 1907.
Application filed January l5, 1906. Serial No. 296,084.
To @ZZ wiz/0m t may con/cern:
Be it known that I, JosnPH OsoAn LA- LoNDE, a subject oi the King of Great Britain, residing at the city and district oi' Montreal, in the Province of Quebec, Canada, have invented certain new and useful lmprove ments in Manifold Counter-Sales Check- Books; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to male and use the same.
My invention relates to counter-sales check-books.
Theobject oi my invention is to provide a book in which two continuous movable sheets are carried, on which sheets entries may be made, and which may be torn oii without unfolding the sheets.
A further object is to provide means for holding immovable a removable sheet ot manifolding material disposed between the continuous sheets as they are removed from a containing-pocket.
A further obj eet of my invention is to provide an open-ended containing-pocket for a supply of continuous double sheets; and my invention consists of the construction, combination, and arrangement oi parts, as herein illustrated, described, and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, forming part oi this application, I have illustrated -one form of embodiment of my invention, in
which drawings similar reference characters designate corresponding parts, and in which- Figure l is a perspective view of the book in open position. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal vertical section through the book. Fig.` 3 is a perspective view of a carbon-sheet retainer. Fig. 4 is an edge elevation of a carbon-holding rod. Fig. 5 is a perspective view ot the. clip adapted to maintain the sheets in a flat position, and Fig. 6 is a perspective of a guide Jfor the continuous sheets.
Referring to the drawings, 1 1a designate a pair of covers united at their ends by a limp binding 2 of ordinary construction, Carried by the cover 1a is an Aopen-ended containing-pocket 3, adapted to contain a duplicate supply of continuous check-paper. Carried by the cover 1a adjacent its inner end is a plate 4, having an upturned hooked end 5, adapted to act as a guide for the paper contained in the pocket 3.
The paper used comprises an upper .sheet 6 and a lower sheet 7 and is folded to suit the dimensions oi the pocket 3, from which it may be drawn in duplicate sheets, the hooked end 5 of the plate 4 keeping the paper perfectly smooth as it is withdrawn from the pocket 3.
Disposed across the limp binding 2 is a i'lat bar 8, having pointed lugs 9 stamped therefrom and adapted to engage through said bindin(r and hold the bar 8 in. position. The bar S at one end is provided with an upturned iange l0, having an opening 11 therein. The opposite end oi the bar S is provided with an upturned iange l2, having a slot 13 therein. A rod 14 is provided with a reduced end 15, adapted to be inserted in the opening 11, and has its opposite end bifurcated, as at 16, and formed of resilient material, so that the biiurcated end 16 may be inserted in the slot 13 and be held therein by the resiliency of its bifurcated end. Carried by the rod 14 is a iiat plate 17, Figs. 1 andl 2, to which may be secured a sheet of maniiolding material 1S. f y
The upper sheet 6 is carried above the rod 14, and the lower sheet 7lis carried below the rod 14, so that a duplicate copy Otan entry made on the sheet 6 is reproduced on the lower sheet 7. An ordinary form of clip is used to maintain the sheets 6 and 7 and the maniiolding-sheet 18 iiat on the cover 1, said clip comprising a rectangular frame 19, of resilient material, having eyes 2l, carrying a bar 20.
Secured to the outer end of the cover 1 is a cutting-plate 22. After the entry is made and the continuous sheets 6 and 7 pulled outward they may be torn oii" along the edge of this cutting-plate.
When the manifolding-sheet 1S is used up, a new sheet may be placed in the book by removing the rod 14, by compressing its bi- Juroated end 16 and releasing it from the slot 13, when the reduced end 15 may be readily withdrawn from the opening l1.
Having thus Jfully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. A counter-sales check-book, comprising a pair of stiiic covers and an intermediate limp connection between the stiff covers, an openended pocket carried by one of the sti covers, a guide-plate carried by the same stiff IOC) cover, and means carried by the limp conneotion for holding the sheet of manifolding material.
2. A counter-sales cheek-book, comprising a pair of covers, a pocket carried by one of the covers, two continuons sheets Carried in the pocket, a plate secured to one of the eovers and provided with a hooked end adapted to guide the continuous sheets as they are drawn Jfrom the pocket, and means for holding a sheet of manifolding material between the sheets as they are removed.
3. In a counter-sales cheek-book, covers, a pocket carried by one of the Covers, two continuous sheets carried in the pocket, a plate secured to one of the covers and provided with a hooked end adapted to guide the continuons sheets as they are drawn from the pocket, and removable means for holding a sheet of manii'olding material between the sheets as they are removed.
4. In a counter-sales cheek-book, covers, a pocket carried by one of the covers, two oontinnous sheets carried in the pocket, a bar provided with pointed lugs secured intermediate of the covers and provided with flanges at its opposite ends, one of said langes having an opening and the other a slot, and a rod having a rounded end and a resilient bifuroated end, said pointed end being disposed in said opening and said bifurcated end being disposed in said slot.
5. In a counter-sales cheek-book, covers, a
pocket Carried by one of the covers, two Continuous sheets carried in the pocket, a bar connected with the covers, a rod detachably mounted on the bar, a plate on said bar, and a sheet of manifolding material secured to the plate.
.6. In a counter-sales cheek-book7 covers comprising a pair `of boards and an intermediate limp connection, an open-ended pocket carried by one board, a manifolding-sheetholding member carried by the limp connection, a Cutting member and a resilient clip carried by the other board, a nianifoldingsheet secured to the holding member, and a supply of Continuons sheets carried by the pocket, one of said sheets extending` above and the other below the manifolding-sheet.
7. In a counter-sales cheek-book, covers comprising a pair of boards and an intermediate limp connection, a pocket carried by one of the boards, a guide-plate Carried by the same board and provided with a hooked end, a removable manifolding element earried by the limp connection, a cutter-plate carried by the other board, and a clip Carried by the latter board.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand in the presence of two witnesses.
JOSEPH O. LALONDE.
