WILLIAM TUTTLE CALDWELL, OF EDGAR, NEBRASKA, ASSIGNOR OF ONE- I-IALF TO HIMSEL'F AND ONE-HALF TO ALBERT JOHN LEPPER, OF
EDGAR, NEBRASKA.
CORN-HUSKER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented March 26, 1907.
To @ZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM TUTTLE CALDWELL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Edgar, in the county of Clay and State of Nebraska, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Corn-Huskers, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
My invention relates to corn-huskers, and particularly to corn-huskers which are adapted to be worn upon the hand or ai'lixed thereto 5 and the object of my invention is to provide a corn-husker of this class which will be adapted for use upon the left hand, leaving the right hand Jfree to be used for other purposes, and which will husk the corn in one operation and prove simple in construction, eilicient in operation, and comparatively cheap in construction.
In the drawings illustrating the principle of my invention and the best mode now known lto me of applying that principle, Figure l is a perspective view of my new corn-husker, and Figs. 2 and 3 illustrate details of the metal parts.
To the upper portion of the mitten a. is riveted the plate l), from which are punched out the V-shaped teeth c, and to the thumb of the mitten, near the top thereof, is riveted a curved plate d, formed with two V-shaped prongs or teeth, the outer one of which is lower than the inner one, as is best shown in Fig. 3. The ear of corn is shown in dotted lines in Fig. l. The plate b is shaped to conform to the fingers of the operator and it is riveted to the mitten at the point corresponding to the first oint of the fingers. The bends or bases of the teeth c lie in the line of the length of the plate b and the latter is curved at one end over the forefinger portion of the mitten a.
I claim- A cornehusker, comprising a mitten; a curved, toothed, metal plate, secured to the face of the thumb portion; and a second metal plate secured to the face of the finger portion along the line of the iirst joint of the iingers, and curved at one end over the forefmger portion and formed with a row of teeth punched from the metal with their bends or bases in the line of the length of the plate.
