Description
' PATENTED FEB.12, 1907.
I. W. OWENS.
KNEE PROTECTOR.
APPLIOATION FILED JUNE 26, 1906.
Witnesses XZQ /JAI FLETCHER W. OWENS, OF PALMETTO, FLORIDA.
KNEE=PROTECTOR.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 12, 1907.
Application filed June 26, 1906. Serial No. 323,431.
To ctll whont nuty concern:
Be it known that I, FLETCHER W. OWENS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Palinetto, in the county of Manatee and State of Florida, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Knee-Protectors, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
The invention relates to knee-protectors, and has for its object to provide a metallic knee-protector that can be worn while the wearer is standing and which is pivotally connected so as to bend with the knee when so desired.
A further object is to provide a device of this character having novel means for adjustably securing this device to the legs of various-sized persons.
With these and other objects in view the invention consists in the novel construction and arrangement of parts hereinafter described and shown, and particularly pointed out in the appended claims.
In the drawings forming part of this specilication, and in which like numerals of reference designate corresponding parts, Figure l is a perspective view of my invention. Fig. 2 is a sectional elevation of the device as it appears when the wearer is walking, the position of the parts being shown in dotted lines. Fig. 3 is a detail view of the locking mechanism for holding the adjustable end of the securing-straps.
Referring to the drawings, 1 and 2 designate the upper and lower sections, respectively, of my knee-protector. The sections 1 and 2 are made of thin sheet metal or other suitable flexible material and are pivoted together, as at 3, by an ordinary rivet. The upper section 1 is a trifle smaller than the lower section, which permits the parts or sections to assume an L-shaped form when the wearer is working on his knees. The lower end of the section 1 is slightly cut away, which enables the parts to open and close freely, as shown in Fig. 2 of the drawings.
The upper and lower sections are secured to the leg by straps 1, which are connected to one side and which are provided at their other ends with notches 5, which pass through a casing 6. The notches 5 are engaged by a spring-actuated dog 7, whereby the straps are adjustable and neatly locked to fit the size of the leg of the wearer. The interior of said sections is provided with a suitable padding 8, which aflords ease and comfort for the wearer.
What I claim is 1. A knee-protector, adapted to protect the knee from wear, and having a strap secured to one side, and comprising a notched bar, and a dog adapted to engage the notches therein, for locking the same.
2. A metallic knee-protector, comprising two members, pivoted together and adapted to conform to the action of the wearer in walking, and a strap secured to one side and terminating in a notched end, and a dog adapted to engage said notches for locking .the same.
FLETCHER IV. OI/VENS. IVit-nesses E. F. WILsoN, R. B. CURRY.
