Be it known that I, GEORGE ARTHUR Ro- NEY, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Grand Forks, in the county of Grand Forks and State of North Dakota, have invented a new and Improved Combined Shaving Mug and Brush, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

This invention is an improvement in a combined shaving mug and brush, having among other objects to provide a device of this character which shall be sanitary and of convenient construction.

With this in View the invention consists of a cup or mug having a displaceable handle adapting it to normally lie in the mug when not in use and a cap or top to close the mug to keep it free of dust, dirt, or other foreign material. The top carries a brush having an extensible handle ,which is also inclosed when the mug and top are in assembled relation.

Figure 1 is a perspective view of the device when assembled. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal vertical central section of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a longitudinal central vertical section of the brush with the handle thereof in an extended position. Fig. 4 is a fragmentary view of one side of the mug, showing the position assumed by the handle when the mug is in use; and Fig. 5 is a side elevation of that end of the handle which is removably secured to the outside of the mug.

The invention comprises a mug or cup 1 of cylindrical or other desired outward conformation. Secured at the inside of the mug near its top is one member of a hinge 2, the opposite or free member of said hinge being hingedly or pivotally connected to a curved handle 3, having an angular bent end 4. On this angular bend of the handle is pivotally connected at 5 a plate 6, forming a latch for securing the handle at the outside of the cup, said latch or plate 6 having an arc-shaped slot 7 passing into it at one side adapted to register witha hole 8 in the part 4 of the handle when the plate is swung on its pivot. A pin or button 9 is fixed at the outside of the cup near its bottom and in the same vertical plane as the handle, said pin having a groove 10 passing about it at an intermediate portion of its length, which is adapted to be engaged by the arc-shaped slot 7 in the plate 6, when the handle is carried to an outward position, with the hole 8 in register with the pin or button 9, and the plate or latch 6 turns on its pivot, as shown in Fig. 4.

The mug 1 is screw-threaded upon its inside at its upper end for receiving a threaded cap or top 11, said cap being preferably bulged outwardly, as shown, and carrying at its center an inverted cup 12, said cup passing through the cap and having its mouth slightly flared for receiving an inverted hollow frustum of a cone 13, telescoping with a similar cone 14 of smaller diameter, carrying a brush 15 at its lower end, the diameter of said cones being such that they will engage with each other near their lower and upper ends when pulled outwardly. The cup 12 has secured on its interior at its center a threaded stud 16, said stud being adapted to register with an opening 17 in the cone 13 and with a threaded opening 18 in the cone 14. It is thus seen by this construction that when the cones forming the brush-handle are pushed together until the threaded opening 18 contacts with the stud 16 the cone 14 may be screwed on said stud, thereby materially shortening the brush-handle and preventing the brush from coming in contact with the bottom of the cup when the top 11 is screwed in place.

In the use of the device the top 11 is unscrewed and the handle 3 swung to an outward position and secured at the outside of the cup by the latching means described. The lower section or cone 14 of the brushhandle is then unscrewed from the stud 16 and the handle removed from the cup 12 and drawn to extended relation, as shown in Fig. 3. The brush can then be used in the usual manner. v

Although I have described one embodiment of the invention in detail, it is evident that the construction may be materially modified, and I consider that I am entitled to such changes as fall within the scope of the appended claims.

Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. In a device-of the character described, a mug, a handle pivotally connected at the inside of the mug and adapted to be normally '1 1o contained therein, and means for attaching said handle to the exterior ofthe mug when the latter is in use.

2. In a device of the character described, a mug, a top for the mug adapted to be screwthreaded thereto, a brush carried by the top having a handle composed of a plurality of conical units, and means for positively securing the handle in contracted relation.

3. In a device of the character described, a mug, a top for covering the mug, an inverted. cup secured to and passing into the top, a threaded stud carried by the cup, and a brush having a telescopic handle adapted to be held in contracted relation on the stud.

mug, a top for closing the mug, a brush carried by the top having a handle composed of a plurality of conical sections telescoping With each other, a threaded stud secured to the top, and a threaded opening carried by the lower section adapted to engage with said stud and hold the handle in contracted relation, as specified.

5 In a device of the character described, a mug, a handle hingedly fixed to the mug and adapted to be contained therein, a pin secured at the outside of the mug, and a latch carried by said handle for engaging With the pin for the purpose described.
