ATTACHMENT FOR CANES OR U MBRELLAS.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 786,755, dated April 4, 1905.

To ct/YZ whom it may concern: Be it known that I, FRANK GREY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Attachment for Canes or Umbrellas, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to a device that is particularly adapted for use in connection with canes and umbrellas, and has for its object to provide an attachment capable of easyadjustment to a cane or an umbrella, by which they may be utilized as a brace for securely holding a door in its closed position.

Another object of my invention is to pro- 1 videan attachment bywhich the said cane or umbrella will be positively held in place and all danger from slipping positively avoided.

With these briefly-stated objects in view my invention comprises a threaded sleeve which is permanently fixed into the head of a cane or an umbrella and in which screws the threaded stem of a Y-shaped member the prongs of which are pointed for the purpose of securing an easy grip upon the door, and upon the opposite end of the cane or umbrella is arranged a pointed ferrulewhich engages the floor to prevent the lower end of the cane or umbrella from slipping. My invention also comprises certain details of construction and novelties of combination and arrangement of parts, as will be fully described in the following specification and pointed outin the claims, reference being had to the drawings, in which' Figure 1 is a perspective view illustrating the practical application of my invention. It will thus be seen that I provide an exceedingly cheap, simple, and eflicient device that will be found'most useful by traveling people and that the various parts may be as readily detached from as connected to a cane or an umbrella when the device is-used, and, further, that the removable parts are of such size and shape that they may be readily carried in the pocket or satchel when not in use.

Having thus fully described my invention, What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

1 In an attachment for canes and umbrellas, the combination with a bracing member having a sleeve arranged in one end, of a Y- shaped member having a stem to fit in the said sleeve, the diverging portions of said Y- shaped member terminating in points, and a pointed ferrule arranged upon the opposite end of the bracing member.

2. In an attachment for canes and umbrellas, the combination with a bracing member having a threaded opening therein, of a threaded sleeve adapted to fit said opening, a Y-shaped member having a threaded stem to fit the sleeve and the diverging portions terminating in points, and a pointed ferrule arranged upon the opposite end of the bracing member in Which the opening is formed.

3. In an attachment for canes and umbrellas, the combination with a handle having a recess in the upper end thereof, of a threaded sleeve arranged in said recess, and a V-shaped member, the shank of which is threaded and adapted to fit into the sleeve, the outer ends of the prongs being pointed for the purpose described.
