Description

PAT-ENTED JAN. 8, 1907'.
PELLEW. GARMENT FASTENING.
APPLIOATION.I'ILED AUG. 10, 1903.
RICHARD PELLEW, OF MANCHESTER, ENGLAND.
GARMENT-FASTENING- Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Jan. 8, 1907.
Application filed August 10, 1903. Serial No. 169,026.
To all whom, it may concern.-
Be it known that I, RICHARD PELLEW, furrier, a subject of the King of Great Britain and Ireland, residing at 142 Great Clowes street, Lower Broughton, Manchester, in the county of Lancaster, England, (post-office address,) have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Garment-Fastenings, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in fasteners which may be employed for garments, neckwear, belts, and other wearmgapparel.
in describing the invention in detail reference will be had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, wherein like characters denote corresponding parts in both views, in which- Figure 1 is a top plan view showing the in vention applied. hig. 2 is a view in side elevation, the base to which it is applied being shown in section.
g In the drawings, '5 denotes portions of a suitable garment to which the invention is applied.
he fastenenis made, preferably, intwo sections 0. and b. The section a is secured to the base or'garment i by means of stiching or other suitable means (not shown) passing through the opening a" at the opposite ends of the section. The section a has outstanding from it two oppositely-bent arms or projections c, which are so shaped at their outer ends as to leave a slit or slot 0 between them. The ends of the arms are contracted, so that the entrance of the slot is much narrower than the space therebeneath.
The section b is preferably rectangular and has its longitudinal axis at right angles to the longitudinal axis of the section a. The end portion d of the section is secured to the base or garment i in any suitable manner, and for that purpose the openings (1 are provided.
The opposite portion A: of the section 1) projects beyond the base 1'. and is provided with cars is, having holes adapted to receive the pivots or trunnions is, forming a part of a frame I, said trunnions being positioned at or near one end of the frame. The frame Z is also provided with a frame-bar c in alinement with the trunnions is, said bar being of greater width than the space 0 between the arms 0. Centrally of the opposed section of the frame is a lip Z for moving the frame on its pivots or trunnions.
A sprin 'Z is carried by the section b-and engages the frame Z and holds the same in its operative position, which is approximately parallel with the section b.
When the frame Z is in a vertical position, as indicated in dotted lines, Fig. 2, the framebar 0 is free to pass through 0 between the arms 0 on the section a; but when in its horizontal or operative position it is confined within the space below the portion 0.
It is to be understood that the arms 0 act in conjunction with one end only, the pivoted end of the frame Z.
Having fully described my invention, what I ,claim'as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is l 1. In a fastener, a section, arms on the section, a second section, ears on the second section, a frame pivotally secured at one end to the ears, the portion of the frame between the ears being adapted to pass between the arms of the first-named section when in one position and held thereby when in another position.
2. In a fastener, a section, arms on the section, a second section, ears on the second section, a frame pivotally secured at one end to the ears, the portion of the frame between the ears being adapted to pass between the arms of the first-named section when in one position and held thereby when in another position, and means for holding the frame in its locked position.
3. In a fastener, a section, arms on the section, a second section, ears on the second section, a frame pivotally secured at one end to the ears, the portion of the frame between the ears being adapted to pass between the arms of the first-named section when in one position and held thereby when in another position, and means carried by the secondnamed section engaging the frame to hold it in its locked position.
4. In a fastener, a section, arms on the section, a second section, ears on the second section, a frame pivotally secured at one end to the ears, the portion of the frame between the ears being adapted to pass between-the arms of the first-named section when in one position and held thereby when in another position, and elastic means carried by the the ears being adapted to pass between the arms of the first-named section when in one 10 arms of the first-named section when in one position and held thereby when in another position and held thereby when in another i position. position and a spring on the second-named 1 In witness whereof I have hereunto set my section engaging the frame. hand in the presence of two witnesses.
6. In a fastener, a section, arms on the sec- 7 RICHARD PELLEW'. tion, a second section, a frame pivoted at one Witnesses: end to the second section, the pivoted end of WILLIAM A. CoLEBoURN,
the frame being adapted to pass between the J AS. STEWART BROADFOOT.
