MARY J. HOSAC, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS, ASSIGNOR TO WARREN FEATHER- BONE COMPANY, OF THREE OAKS, MICHIGAN.
HOOP-SKIRT.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Jan. i, 1907.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, MARY J. HOSAO, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, county of Cook, and State of lllinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hoop-Skirts, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in hoop-skirts.
The main object of this invention is to provide an improved hoop-skirt which is so arranged that it does not tilt up when the wearer sits down and one which hangs in a desirable manner when the wearer is standingror walking.
urther objects and objects relating to structural details will definitely appear from the detailed description to follow.
I accomplish the objects of my invention by the devices and means described in the following specification.
The invention is clearly defined, and pointed out in the claims.
A structure embodying the features of my invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which Figure 1 is an elevation of my improved hoop-skirt, the same being shown in position on a form. Fig. 2 is a detail rear view showing the arrangement of the supporting-tapes for the hoops. Fig. 3 is an elevation of my improved hoop-skirt, showing the same on a form or person sitting.
In the drawings similar letters of reference refer to similar parts throughout the several views.
Referring to the drawings, the hoops A are inclined downwardly toward the front, as clearly appears from the drawings. The hoop-sup orting ta es are suspended from the waistband B. The front hoop-supporting tapes '0 are secured at the front to the waistband and extend downwardly and forwardly from a line perpendicular with their points of attachment. The side supportingtapes C are secured at the rear to the waistband and extend downwardly and forwardly across the hips of the wearer. The rear supporting-tape C is secured to the waistband at the rear and is secured to the'hoops at points central to the points of securing the side bands C thereto. By thus arranging the hoops on supporting-tapes the tendency of the supporting-tapes is to draw the hoops to the rear. This arrangement also draws the hoops inwardly when the wearer sits down, so that they do not extend out in front of the wearer in an objectionable manner and also do not tilt up when the wearer sits down.
I have shown merely the skeleton or framework of my improved hoop-skirt. It is intended in practice to provide a covering made of some suitable material. It can of course be used without such covering.
I have illustrated my improved hoop-skirt in detail in the form preferred by me on account of its structural simplicity. I am aware, however, that it is capable of considerable variation in structural details without departing from my invention.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. In a hoop-skirt, the combination of a Waistband; hoops arranged to incline downwardly toward the front a pair of front supporting-tapes secured to said waistbandat the front and arranged to extend downwardly and forwardly; a pair of side supporting-tapes secured to said waistband at the rear, arranged to pass downwardly and forwardly over the hips of the wearer and a central rear supporting-tape connected to said waistband at the rear, for the purpose specified.
2. In a hoop-skirt, the combination of a waistband; hoops arranged to incline downwardly toward the front; and supportingtapes for said hoops, the side supportingtapes being secured to said waistband at the rear and arranged to pass downwardly and forwardly over the hips of the wearer, for the purpose specified.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal in the presence of two wit- 'nesses.
MARY J. HOSAC. [L. s.]
