Description

No. 839,729. PATENTED DEC. 25, 1906.
" A. T. CHANGE.
CURTAIN HOLDER APPLICATIOE' FILED JUNE 7. 1906.
h INVENTOF) fllz'qepf izazzce ALFRED T. CHANCE, OF BERLIN, MARYLAND.
CURTAIN-HOLDER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 25, 1906.
Application filed June 7, 1906. Serial No. 320.587.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALFRED T. CHANGE, a citlzen of the United States, residing at Berlin, in the county of Worcester and State of Maryland, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Curtain-Holders, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to curtain-holders for either windows or doors.
The object of this invention is to rovide a curtain-holder adapted to hold t e lower part of a window or door curtain back against the window or door frame, as the case may be.
Another object of this invention is to provide a curtain-holder of the character above described and to make the same adjustable, so as to spread the curtains apart atdifierent degrees.
A further object is to provide a curtain holder such as described and to construct the same in an exceedingly cheap and simple manner, one which may be easily and quickly applied, and will efiiciently perform all of its intended functions.
With these ends in view and such others as may appear my invention consists in the particular construction of the various parts and in the novel manner of combination and arrangement of said parts, all of which will be hereinafter more fully described, and specifically pointed out in the appended claims.
In the drawings forming a part of this specification, Figure 1 is a front view of a window and its frame provided with my invention. Fig. 2 is an enlarged detail view of the socket or retaining plate, and Fig. 3 is an enlarged detail view of the holder or hook.
Referring by numerals to the drawings, 1 represents a plate having countersunk screwholes 2, by which it may be secured to a window or door frame, as the case may be. This plate is provided upon its face with a projecting semicircular portion 3, through the center of which passes a perpendicular aperture 4, and it is further provided upon its periphery with a series of recesses 5, the object of which will hereinafter appear.
The curtain-holders proper consist of right and left hand hooks 6. However, the description of one is applicable to the other, the only difference being in the direction of the bend of the hook portion. The shank 7 of the hook is formed with a ddwnwardly-projecting pin 8, adapted to engage the aperture 4 and sustain the hook in a horizontal position. This shank portion is further provided with a lip 9, which projects downwardly parallel to the pin and has a bearing against the semicircular portion of the plate. In the angle formed by the shank 7 and the lip 9 is a lug 10, adapted to engage any one ofthe notches or recesses 5, so as to lock the hook in any desired position, thus allowing for the adjustment of the same in order to part the curtains at various distances or degrees.
I deem the foregoing explanation sufficiently plain that the invention will be read ily understood by all conversant in such matters, the extreme simplicity rendering an elaborate description unnecessary.
Having thus described the various features of my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
l. A curtain-holder comprising a semicircular support having an aperture and a series of recesses therein, a pin engaging said aperture, a horizontal hook supported by the pin, a lug carried by the hook adapted to engage the recesses, substantially as s ecified.
2. In a curtain-holder a semicircu ar support, means for securing the support in position, a perpendicular aperture in the support, a series of recesses in the periphery of the support, a in engaging the aperture, a horizontal hOO li supported by the in, a lip formed upon the shank of the hoo adapted to bear against the semicircular portion of the support, a lug formed in the angle made by the shank and lip, said lug adapted to engage any one of the recesses, substantially as specified.
ALFRED T. CHANCE.
