My invention relates to an improvement inI a device for the protection of brooms and 'the object of the same is to decrease the liability of the 'broom from spreading when used in` sweeping rough surfaces, thereby rendering the broom stiff, so that the straw is not likely to become broken, as wouldordinarily be the result when being used in the sweeping of rough surfaces; and the device is particularly adapted to a broom when used to clean narrow crevioes, such as railway crossings and switches. It is also applicable for use on brooms for household purposes, as well as on brooms for all other 'purposes where brooms of this particular character are used.
With the foregoing object in View my invention consists in certain novel features of construction and combination of parts, which will be hereinafter described7 and pointed out in the claim.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of my invention. Fig. 2 is a view showing the device secured on a broom, and Figa?) is a view of a thumblscrew used for the purpose of securing adjustment of the device on the broom.
A represents two vertical parallel metal rods, and 1 a circular band formed at the top part thereof. These rods and'the band can be stamped out of a single piece of sheet metal, as shown in thev drawings, or can be made separately and secured together by any suitable means as may be desired or found the most advantageous in the manufacture thereof. These rods are made from sheet metal of a suitable thickness to affordstiness and strength.

Having described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
It is A broom-protector substantially as hereinl band, and an oblong corrugated band secured on the lower ends of said rods, a triangular opening being provided in the lower end port1on of one of the rods for the purpose as herein set forth.
