Be it known that L ETHEL E. SAUMs, a citizen of the United States, residing at Mount Pleasant, in the county of Henry and State of Iowa, have invented new and useful Improvements in Sealingl/Vax Pots, of which the following is a specication.

This invention relates to a device for melting wax and applying the same to fruit jars, bottles and the like.

The invention has for one of its objects to improve and simplify the construction of devices of this character so -as to be comparatively easy and inexpensive to manufacture, and reliable and eiiicient in use.

Another object of the invention is the provision of a melting pot constructed of a cylindrical body flat at its bottom and formed with a handle constructed of members formed by slitting the body at opposite sides, the members being bent into a handle that is located at such a point as to be conveniently gripped and which is at the same time suitably remote from the heat so as not to become uncomfortably hot.

l/Vith these objects in view and others, as will appear as the description proceeds, the invention comprises the various novel features of construction and arrangement of parts which will be more fully described hereinafter and set forth with particularity in the claims appended hereto.

In the accompanying drawing, which illustrates one embodiment of the invention, Figure l is a perspective view of the pot showing the first stage of its construction from an ordinary can. Fig. 2 is a similar view show ing the handle members partially formed. Fig. 3 is a perspective View of the completed article. Fig. t is a plan view thereof.

Similar reference characters are employed to designate corresponding parts throughout the views.

Referring to the drawing, A designates a can such for instance, as an ordinary preserving can before the top is applied thereto. The cylindrical body of the can has slits l and 2 at opposite points which incline downwardly from the top edge of the body to a point adjacent the middle thereof to form the handle members 3 and i and to form a spout 5 out of which the melted wax can be freely poured. The members 3 and 4L are bent outwardly and rearwardly, as shown in Fig. 2, the line 6 on which the members are bent being disposed vertically above the Specification of Letters Patent.

The rear or handle portion of the body forms an arcuate plate 7 disposed diametrically opposite the spout 5, and it is to be noted that the seam 8 where the ends of the cylindrical body A join is located in the vertical center line of plate 7 so that the seam will give rigidity thereto. The members 3 and A are curved backwardly against the rear face of the plate 7 to a point adjacent the seam S and then the members are bent rearwardly in parallel relation to constitute the handle 9. The tips of the handle members are bent inwardly against each other and disposed between the parallcl portions of the handle members so as to provide a neat finish and at the same time stiften the handle. The plate 7 besides serving as a connection between the pot and handle, constitutes a shield for protecting the hand against the wax spattering on the hand of the user.

Having thus described the invention, what I claim is l. A pot comprising a sheet metal body having portions partly cut from opposite sides to form handle members, a pouring spout, and a handle portion, the said handle members being bent outwardly and rearwardly to form a handle.

2. A pot comprising a body formed with a spout, an arcuate plate rising from the body at the point opposite the spout, and a handle consisting of members attached to the plate and having portions bent backwardly against the same, and terminal portions extending outwardly from the plate.

3. A pot consisting of a body composed of sheet metal having its ends connected together by a seam, said body having slits at opposite sides inclined from the top edge downwardly and rearwardly to points at opposite sides of the seam to form a spout opposite the seam and to also form a handle portion and handle members, said handle members being bent backwardly against the outside of the said handle portion of the body and then bent outwardly parallel to each other, the extremities of the members being turned inwardly between the said parallel portions.
