TYREE F. WILKINSON, OF- RICHMOND; VIRGIN 1A.
TAG.
To whom it 77LIl 7/ (307L0[377L.' Be it known that I, T YREE F. Wrutrxsox, a citizen of the United States, residing at Richmond, in the county of Henrico and State of Yir inia, have invented certain new and useful Iinprovem'ents in Tags, of which the following is a s )ecification.
My invention relates to improvements in tags.
The object of my invention is to provide a shipping and delivery tag to be used in combinatiQn with a system of parcel delivery or shipping which will keep a perfect check on the numerous employees in conducting large stores or establishments of this character.
Another object of my invention is to obviate the necessity of transcribing the names and addresses of purchasers from the salesbooks or memorandums to the parcel-wrappers or tags, thus saving time, preventing errors in co )ying, and also allowing any error to be readiiy traced to the clerk making the same...
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved ship ingtag ready with the carbon and record-s eets tag, showing the record-sheet torn off.
raised. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of my Fig. 3 is a plan view showing the blank of which the shipping-t ag is formed.
'Referring now to Figs. 1. 2, and 3 of the drawings, A represents the record part of my improved 'tag, which, as shown, is formed with'the-usu'al stub A, which is provided with an opening a, which is provided with the double reinforcement-pieces B, which 'revent the string or cord from pulling out.
he said record part of the tag is perforated across its face transversely at C. which allows of the record portion A to be readily torn from the tag and to be kept a record of the transaction. The said end A of the record part of the tag is printed to indicate who the goods are for and where to and also giving the terms of the transaction and the name or number of the clerk selling the goods.
The shi'ppingpart of the tag D is made of a size precisely that ofthe part A and A and is printed with exactly the same printing. so that when'the two are folded together. as
shown in Figs. 1 and 3, the spaces for the names will register precisely with each other;
Specification of Letters Patent. Application filed April 20, 1905- Serial lid-258.552.
but said tag D is not provided with the perforations across t'he same. and the end D is Patented Dec. 4, 1906.
2, reads across the tag, but could, if desired, be printed to read lengthwise of the tag. The lower edge of the tag- I) is provided with additional printed matter for shipping purposes, the record part A of the tag not having this printing. thus saving expense, as this part of the ta is only a record-slip of the transaction. The left-hand edge of the tagsection is provided with an opening (1, arranged opposite the opening a, and surrounding the opening on the lower or outer face is a. reinforcement like the reinforcement B of the record portion of the tag. This doubled end of the record-sheet, as shown folded upon the tag pro )er, serves as a reinforcement for the tag am at the same time allows of the same being stamped or cut from asin le piece of paper. This tag, as will be understood, is made of Manila paper, but is not of such a thickness that a good earboncannot be made. Placed between the record-sheet A and the tag P is apiece of carbon-paper G for transcribin the order on the tag.
My evice is especiall designed to be used in large stores and is adapted to obviate the necessity of repeated copying of an order before the goods are delivered. I accomplish this by the clerk taking the order from the customer directly upon the tag, so that the customer will see the same and will verify any mistakes in name or address. The tag is then attached to the parcel and sent directly 'to the shipping-clerk, who records same from the record-slip. The drivers use the record-slips on their routes, rett'irning same for apermanent record to the ollice. By this tag and system it will be seen that there is no copying of the order from the original order, and the carbon of the original order is the one that is attached to the article delivered, and if any error occurs it is readily traced to the salesman takin the order, as there being no co ying of the order there could be no mista e in the same from the time itleft the sales-clerk until it was received or delivered.
The two parts of the tag are printed on opposite sides and folded so as to bring the printing on the same side and registering with each other.
Having thus described my invention, what- I claim. and desire to secure bv Letters Patent. is
- In a tag, a body port-ion and a record-slip formed of a continuous strip of paper and printed on opposite sides, the body portion and record-slip having registering openings In testimony whereof I affix my signature when folded into thelroperatlve posmon and in presence of two Witnesses. reinforcements surroundmg the o enings, a TYREE F YILKINSON carbon between the record-slip an body portion, the said record-slip havlng perforatlons Witnesses: adjacent the opening therein, whereby the JNO. B. LIGHTFOOT, J12, record-slip is severed from the body portion. JOHN P. LEARY.
