Description

PATENTED MAY 5, 1.908.
G. HEINBRSDORF.'
SALES CHECK.
APPLIOATION FILED SEPTA?. 1907.
gwada-Moscow! GUSTAV HEINERSDORF, OF NEW YORK-N. Y. I
SALES-CHECK.
To all 'whom 'it may concern.'
B e it known that I, GUsTAV HEINERSDORF, citizen of the United States, residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvementsl in Sales-Checks, of
' which the following is a specification.
This invention aims to produce a simple and eHiclent sales check for use 1n hotels, restaurants or cafs, department stores, and the like, and while the invention is adaptable to sales checks generally it is designed particularly as an im rovement on the checks for "which I have o tained Letters Patent of `the United States No. 844,596, datedFebruary 19, 1907. That patented check embodies an order sheet in which the articles bought and their respectivecosts are to be filled in by the salesman or waiter in the usual manner, and a coupon portion peculiarly constructed and arranged, the several lines of coupons being distinguished from each other by certain indicia, and the several coupons of the respective rows being partially severed from each other by means of oblique or zig-zag perforated lines.
The primary object of the resent invention is to rovide a sales chec that cannot be success ully altered or tampered with -to change any of the amounts marked thereon, without detection, thereby serving as a safeguard to the proprietor of the establishment, the salesman or waiter and the customer, and to this end the invention consists essentially in a sales check embodying an inclosed or inlaid sheet of manifolding paper, laid between two plies or thicknesses, the latter being pasted together at predetermined oints o r along desired lines so as to hold tie uman1- folding 'sheet concealed and ermanently in place until the cashier or ot 1er authorized person takes the check after'it has been filled out and opens it along the weakened 'or per- '.forated lines to expose the back sheet which has imprinted thereon all of the marks originally made on the face sheet.
The invention also 'consists in certain details of construction and arrangement of parts that I shall hereinafter fully describe and claim- For a full understanding of the inventlon, reference is to be had to the followingdeseri tion and accom anying drawings, in whic 1:,
Figure 1 is a ace View of a sales check embodying the improvements of my inventlon; Fig. 2 is a perspective View thereof, the parts l Specification of Letters Patent.

being shown partially separated; and, Fig. 3v I is a horizont: sectional view of the check.
Corresponding and like parts are referred to in the following description and indicated in all the views of the drawings by tlresame reference characters.
In carrying out my invention, l construct each sales check of two plies or sheets l and A2, that are laid one upon the other with a manifolding sheet 3 between the saine with its face or copying portion next to the sheet 2. Only the outer or face sheet l may be printed upon with the name of the hotel or other establishment and other distinguishing marks, but if desired the rear face of the back sheet 2 may also contain characters to Q assist in distinguishing the respective coupons 4 of which there may be any desired number of rows and number of coupons in each row. For instance, two rows may be employed, one for table dhte and the other for a la carte, or the ,coupons may be arranged so as to be used for the specific purposes set forth in my prior patent above referred to.
Preferably the coupon portions of thc two sheets are pasted'togethe'r throughout their area, and are separated from the main or other portions of the sheets by a longitudinally extending pasted border 5 bounded hy lines of perforation 6. The upper andlower edges ofthe sheets are also pasted together as indicated at 7, such vpasted portions being also bounded along one side with perforated lines8, andthe opposite edges of the two Sheets may either be integrally connected together or -otherwise secured according as taste or judgment may dictate.
It is to be understood that the main order portion of the check is not pasted, but at such ortion and throughout the extent thereo the two sheets are separate or without permanent connection. llenee it will be seen that while the inanilolding sheet 3' is securely held in place while the check is 'being usedA and is l concealed, yet the cashier or other person in charge may, hy tearing oil' the pasted portions of the check, separate one portion from the other at the order pari of the check, so as to expose the marks that have been made on the rear sheet by the manifolding process and at once determine whether the check has been tampered with or if an atteinptfhas been made to make an erasure or alteration.
As the line of perforation 6 lies within the 'margin ol ,the detachable coupons, it is obvious that the coupons may be detached according as necessity requires, without in any` Wise separating the two plies l and 2 and disclosing the manifolding sheet 3 between the same. It will. be also noted that` the manifolding sheet 3 is pasted at one edge between the two plies forming the coupon portion of the check, which assists in servin to hold the manifolding sheet securely in p ace without becoming rumpled, andas 'the said manifolding sheet extends almost entirely t-hrou hout the eX- tent of the check, the latter wi l have a uniform thickness throughout and will not bulge at one or more points to excite the curiosity of the waiters.
From the foregoing description in connection with the accompanying drawing, it willl be seen that I have provided a Very simple and eficient construction of sales check that cannot be altered.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is:
As an improved article of manufacture, the .hereindescribed sales check embodying two plies and an interposed manifolding vided with a detachable coupon portion extending alon one of its edges, those portions of the plies t at constitute the-coupon ortion being pastedl together throughout t eir extent and being provided where the join the other portion of the check with a ine of perforations whereby to render them detach- 25 sheet, the two plies of the check being proable from lthe main portion lof the check, saidY main portion of the check being provided GUSTAV HEINERSDORF.
