SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 458,169, dated August 25, 1891.

To all whom it may concern.:
Be it known that I, FREDERICK W. HAYES, a citizen of theUnited States, residin gat Detroit, county of Wayne, State of Michigan, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Clipping-Tags; and I declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of theinvention, such as will enableothers skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use the saine, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification.
My invention is designed to produce a device whereby clippings from newspapers and the like can be readily arranged and classified, and whereby they may be identified without Inutilating the clipping.
The invention consists, essentially, in providing a strip or piece of plain paper-sayan inch (more 0r less) in length, and about the width of the clipping-and providing this strip with a gumined edge, whereby it may be attached to a clipping.
The invention also consists in other novel features of construction, hereinafter described and claimed.
The figure in the drawing represents my strip or tag with the corner turned down to show the gummed edge.
In carrying out my invention, A represents the tag or strip. This tag or strip has its lower edge a gummed, as shown, so that by dampening this gumniing the tag may be afiixed to the clipping represented by the dotted lines in the drawing. AOn the face of the tag or strip A may be printed some such words as Clipping taken from, and then one or two lines beneath for the entry of the words of identiiication.

Thus the difliculty now experienced by those who keep newspaper and similar clippings in not having sufficient space on which to write the identification is obviated.
Vhat I claim is- An identification-tag having a memorandum-blank on its face, gummed at the lower edge of the tag for the attachment of a clipping thereto, provided with a line of perforations or weakened line above the memorandum-blank and gumrned on the back at its upper edge beyond said line for attachment to a sheet or support, the construction being such that a tag, with its clipping, may be pasted to the sheet or support, and the clipping, with its tag, be severed from the book or support along said weakened line, substantially as described.
