WAISTBAND.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 4, 19061 Application filed March 28, 1906. Serial No. 252,560.
To aZZ whom it may concern.-
Be 1t known that I, REGINALD LnsLrn GOODING, a subject of the King of Great Britain, and a resident of. Bridgetown, Bar-- badoes, British West Indies, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in l/Vaistbands, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to that class of devices designed to retain in inseparable contact the Waistbands of skirts and bodices or blouses when-adjusted on the person wearin them.
evices'for the purpose have heretofore been provided, but have comprised in their construction metallic points or hooks inperforate or fasten to the bands,
Both
or like fastenings and rubber facings.
of said constructions are, however, imperfect masmuchas when hooks and the like have been employed they tear, Wear out, or otherwise injure the band or bands, and when rubber alone or in combination with hooks or fastenings has been used it has only been ap lied to one side of a skirt or bodice band or elt and is capable of supporting one of the garments only. Moreover, when rubber cings have been employed for the purpose it has been deemed essential to corrugate the face of the rubber horizontally in order that it may impin e tightly upon and squeeze the material of t e bodice or skirt or like garments into corresponding corrugations in corsets or pads appliedthereto.
The object of my invention is to provide a skirt and bodice or blouse band holder of particularly li ht construction which will 38 surfaces of both the skirt band and the blouse or bodice band, not only by reason of the nature of the material or substance employed, but also because of the arrangement of the ieces of said substance on one side of the belt being intermittent those on the other side.
By my improvement the impinging material is applied to both sides of a belt, so that both skirt and blouse band will be held withtons on the other side.
out additional devices such as, for instance, the pads before mentioned the use of my device not the sli htest injury will be imparted to the skirt or louse band, While they will be effectively prevented from derangement due to" the Weight or movement of the body, and, finally, the device is capable of bein easily applie It is to be understood that in improved belt is to be worn between the skirt and bodice bands and that independent movement of the said bands will be prevented by the frictional contact of the rubber buttons or disks therewith.
Reference being had to the accom anying drawings, formin a art of this spec' cation, and in which e letters refer to similar parts throughout A Figure 1 illustrates'a belt constructed in accordance with my invention. transverse section, enlarged, of the belt.-
The invention comprises the belt- A, constructed of canvas or suitable fabric or ma-' tcrial and provided with a buckle or suitable fastening device B. Buttons or disks of rubber C are secured to opposite sides of the belt A by stitching or in any other manneras, for instance, by metallic fastenings. The buttons are preferably arranged in such manner that the buttons on one side ,are alternately arranged with the buttons on the other side. By such belt will lie flatter around the waist, for the reason that the buttons on one side will be pressed by the outer bodice;or skirt band substantially into alinement with the but-' Moreover, a certain degree of elasticity is imparted to the. belt, because when it is drawn tightl around the waist the canvas straightens and the buttons on one side are forced outwardly out of slimement with those on the other side, but are again pressed substantiall into alinement when the outermost band of the skirt or bodice is drawn taut, and by such action the bolt A is additionally tightened and the impingement of the disks increased. If desired, the frictional contact may be enhanced Fig. 2 is a an arrangement the Moreover, by

side and the Whole outer surface oftho but- 10' tons being roughened.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two witnesses.
REGINALD LESLIE GOODING.
b roughenin the surface of the buttons, as iliii strated. at?) in Fig. 2.
Havingnow described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Let- I 5 ters Patent, is
A belt of canvas or similar material having Wit *se rubber buttons secured to both sides thereof, ne s 1 H. P. BAsooM,
the buttons on one side of the belt being alternately arranged with those on the other P. SEEPHERD.
