Specification of Letters Patent. Application filed November 18, 1905. Serial No. 288,044.
No. 834,402. Patented oct. 3o, 190e.
to the left in Fig. 1, the curved wall h bears upon the pins f, and thereby depresses the upper end of the'clamp-lever andraises the lower end thereof from the work When the handle-bar e is thrown to the right in Fig. l, the roller g rides up under the lower cam-surface of the upper end of the clamplever d, and thereby raises the said upper end and presses the free end of the clamp-lever d xgainst the work, as shown in the full lines in IVhat I claim is` To @ZZ whom t may concern,.-
Be it known that I, JOHAN HENRIKSEN PEIOK, a subject of the King of Denmark, l and a resident of Binghamton, in the county of Broome and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bench-Clamps, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
y invention relates to improvements in clamps for holding wood or other material upon a bench or like support during the'time that it is being worked upon by the artisan; and the object of my invention is to produce a clamp of this kind which shall be simple in construction, cheap in manufacture, and efficient in operation.
In the drawings illustrating the principle, of my invention, and the best mode now known to me' of applying that principle, Figure 1 is a sideelevation of my new clamp, and Fig. 2 is a front elevation of the same.
The bench a is formed with a hole through which passes the rod b, from the upper end of which extends a curved arm c, pivotally mounted in which is the clamp-lever d. Mounted free to swing upon the upper en i of the rod b is the handle-bar e, the lower part of which is slotted to receive the pins f, which project from the upper end of the clampever d. The handle-bar e carries a roller g, (see Fig. 2,) which is adapted to bear against the under surface of the upperend of the clamp-lever d, and which, being given a cam action by said handle-bar, may be called a foam-roller.
The operation of the clamp will be readily understood from the foregoing description and an inspection of Figpl, in'which the reis shown in dot- -bar e is thrown nation of a supporting-rod formed with an arm; a handle-bar mounted free to swing upon said rod and provided with a roller, the lower end of saidhandle-bar being slotted; and a clamp-lever mounted in said arm and having one end adapted to engage with said roller, said end being provided with pins said handle-bar.
2. A bench-clamp comprising the combination of a support an operating handle-bar mounted therein, formed with a cam-slot and provided with a cam-roller and a clamplever-mounted in said support and formed with a cam-surface against which rubs said cam-roller; one end of said clamp-lever being operated by one wall of said cam-slot; one movement of said handle-bar causing the wall of said cam-slot to swing said clamplever in one direction and the reverse movement of said handle-bar causing said camroller to swing said clamp-lever in the opposite direction.
