In the accompanyingawings, forming a part of this specification, F' 1 is a perl' spective` view of a blade-hol er constructed l" y in. accordance with-my invention, showing an ordinary Gillette razor-blade clamped in position thereon. Fig. 2 is a similar view showing the clamping'members released and Vthe blade detached. Fig. 3 is a-rear elevation of the holder, and Fig. 4 is a transverse. sectional view taken'on the line 4 4 of Fig. 3. f
' responding parts'in all of the gures of the dra e device consists of a supporting-handle 6, to which is secured in any suitable manner Similarmimerals of reference indicate cor- The holderis principally designed forshar-k ening or honing the razor-bla the reduced shanks 7 of a stationary clamp'- 55 ing member 8. Secured to the-free .end of the clamping member 8 is'y a vertical :l or. extension 9, adapted .to receive-@thailncatedvend 10 of a movable cl mgl member .giv a l.

Y
ormedinthe adjacent faces of th cl'amp-- and-'11. are longitudinaT grooves rr 15', which extend thrgughthe ad-- acent `longitudinal i es o ffgsaid. members serve to center an protecf'ohe :cutting .jedge of the blade 5v while the opposite edge being honedor otherwise sharp,
cned.' fflnloperatien -theblade is. placed in positionl on the stationary member 8, with one. cutting edge thereof. disposed within the groove 1:3,V after which the movable member 11 is swung downwardly v in contact with the blade, and said member Vis secured in locked positionby sliding-the 'clamping- 14 longitudinally of the Shanks 7 and 13 sharpening the ra- -zorvblade'lthe latter is placed on the hone or stra with the free or exposed cutting edge of the. lade be on" the same and the holder moving back an bforth over the stra in the usual v manner. To release the bla e, it is mereif'v necessary to yslide the clampingring rearwardly, when the movable clamping member -will be released thereby, permitting the latter 'to 'be swung u wardly to inopera* tive-position and the'bla e detached.
Attention is called to the fact that the free end of the shank 13 terminates short of the adjacent end of the handle 6, so as to permit the clamping-ring vwhen moved to operative osition to rest on the shank 7, and thus alow the movable member to be `moved to open position. f rog While the h'older is princi ally designed for sharpening razor-blades havmg double l cutting edges, it is\ obvious that the same mayl IDO be used for sharpening blades having a, single cutting edge, the result accomplished being 'the seme in both cases.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed is.-
LtAn implement embodying a handle, and clamping members carried by the handle and adapted to receive a euttingblade, said membershaving their adjacent fares provided with coincident longitudinal reresses for the reception oi one edge of the blade.
2. An implement embodying a handle, and stationary and movable elamping members carried by the handle, said members being each provided with a reeess disposed at one longitudinal edge thereof for the, reception of one edge of a cutting-blade.
3. All implement embodying a handle, a stationary member seeured to the handle and provided with a redutetl shank, a movable clamping member pivoted to the stationaryv Clamping' member and adapted to engage a cutting-blade, said clamping members being eaeh provided at. one longitudinal edge there.- of with a recess for the reeeption ol' one edge oi the eutting-blade, a clamping-ring slidalily mounted on the shank and adapted to engage the clamping member for loelting the same in o ierative position.
4. An implement embodying a handle, a stationaryr member earried b v the handle and provided with a redueed shank, a movable elamping member pivoted to the stationary member and having one end thereof reduced and terminating short ol' the handle, said clamping members being adapted to engage a cutting-blade and having their adjaeent faces provided with longitudinal recesses for the reception of one edge of the blade, and a clam )ing-ring slidably mounted on the shanlt of the stationa member and ada ted to engage the movab e member for loc 'ng the latter into engagement with said blade.
5. An implement embodying a handle, a stationary member secured to the handle and having its free end provided with a laterallyextended lug, a movable clamping member pivoted to the stationary clamping member and having one end thereof bifureated for the reception of they lug, means slidably mounted on the stationary member and adapted to engage the movable member for locking the latten in engagement with a cutting-blade, said members being provided at` one longi tndinal edge thereof with coincident recesses adapted to receive one edge of the cuttingblade.
ti. An implenent embodying a pair of elamping members adapted to receive a doubled edge cutting-blade, said members having their adjarent. faees provided with longitudinal recesses adapted to receive one cutting edge of the blade for centering the same with respect to the walls of said reeesses, and means for looking the clamping members in operative position.
ln testimony that l elaim the foregoing as my own l have hereto allixed my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
